Elliptical recommendation under 2k

Post by am » Sat Jan 12, 2019 11:11 am

I am in the market to replace my sole elliptical that is 10+ yrs old. Preferably under 2k, the smaller the better. I was happy with the sole and am leaning towards the e55 model but no one has them in my area to try. Any recommendations?

I cant help with specific models, but will offer this: wait until July or August and check craigslist. About then, all the people who bought new exercise equipment as a new years resolution and used it 3 times will want it out of their spare room.

+1. We have a Life Fitness that has held up very well. I'd look for the kind that they have in hotel fitness rooms (durable but not too expensive).

I got a reconditioned Precor AMT for $1500 delivered. It was from a certified Precor servicing company that had warehouses full of old machines they bought up from gyms. Pretty much like new once it was reconditioned. It's very tall (6.5'?) but actually has a smaller footprint than your average elliptical. Very satisfied with the purchase/investment.

Sole E35 Eliptical.
Have had it for 8 years.
Runs smooth. No problems. Very solid.

I bought mine on Craiglist for $200. I think it was $800-900 new.

Get a Concept2 Rower instead. You can buy one new for less than your budget. It has a small footprint when folded. Arguably a better low impact workout than an elliptical.

We have a lifefitness x1 and are quite happy with it. Using it about 2-3 x per week and 4 years old now.

You can get the E35 for much cheaper on the manufacturer site.

I have this simple elliptical https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KA ... UTF8&psc=1. I find unless you get a precor or something made for the gym, and if used 3+ times per week by a few people, you need to replace the item every few years.

I like the free motion ones that allow you to run or walk on them. I never found that my body liked a traditional repetitive motion elliptical.

I second Sole - they are awesome - only problem is that they are very heavy. The first one I had for 10 years and the current one I have is two years old - they are really solidly built FWIW...

I have rarely seen decent gear at reasonable prices on CL. You see a lot of the <1k machines that as you say people buy and then decide they don't want. I don't see anywhere near as much 2k which is where decent ellipticals start at being sold for cheaply. Obviously you only need 1 seller.
