Puzzle

In proximity of NYC, a witty, intelligent woman in a blue collar
neighborhood takes care of the needs of her family and friends
while neglecting her own aspirations and fulfillment. She discovers
an uncanny knack for rapidly solving jigsaw puzzles and finds there
are others who share this interest and participate in tournaments.
By chance she meets and partners with another puzzle enthusiast
which opens a new world for her but puts strains on her marriage.

Destination Wedding, on Amazon Prime.

This romantic comedy stars Keannu Reeves and Winona Ryder. Two mismatched misfits meet and constantly bicker at a wedding. (When threatened by a wild animal, they argue about whether it is a cougar, puma, or mountain lion.) The movie is way more enjoyable than it sounds.

Looking forward to the Coen Brothers new movie, "Ballad of Buster Scruggs", on Netflix starting Nov 16.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is an American western anthology film written, directed, and produced by the Coen brothers. It stars Tim Blake Nelson, Liam Neeson, James Franco, Zoe Kazan, Tyne Daly, and Tom Waits. It premiered at the 75th Venice International Film Festival on August 31, 2018, where it won the Golden Osella Award for Best Screenplay[3][4] and is scheduled to be released November 16 on Netflix after a theatrical run.

AO Scott, NYTimes review https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/08/movi ... eview.html
“The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” is one of the darkest movies by Joel and Ethan Coen, and also among the silliest. It swerves from goofy to ghastly so deftly and so often that you can’t always tell which is which.

It's a Gift (1934) W.C. Fields, Baby LeRoy. A bumbling henpecked grocer receives an inheritance, sells the grocery store, buys an orange grove sight unseen and moves the family to California to run it. Not my first viewing. I like this film, it's a comedic masterpiece.

The Ghost + Mr. Chicken starring Don Knotts. One of the first movies my mum brought me to as a small boy.

Thanks. I’ll look for it. I watched the trailer and it looks really good. (Helps that I just bought a 1000-piece New Yorker jigsaw puzzle myself for .50 at a rummage sale!)

Oh, I just found that it will be released on DVD tomorrow, Nov. 13! Maybe Redbox will have it.

We watched Prometheus (2012) over the weekend. It's a Ridley Scott flick loosely associated with the Alien franchise. It was alright. Good visuals. Forgettable. Didn't think the story-telling lived up to the premise.

Watched the following:

Eighth grade
Blackkklansman
A wrinkle in time

Enjoyed them all.

Also watched the other side of the wind, an Orson Welles film from the 70's that was edited based on his notes and just released. Fantastic to watch but many what the heck is going on moments. It has a movie within a movie that is about making movies. John Huston plays a Orson Welles like character. Will watch again.

This movie had a ton of funny moments and I would recommend watching on Netflix. From the title I thought it would be some silly non-funny movie starring SNL alumni. But it wasn't.

Wish I had seen "Eighth Grade". I (wrongly) thought it was a kids movie. :D

We hadn't noticed "Can you ever forgive me", so read up on it, and it sounds great - and got remarkable reviews.
(Hope that's not setting us up for disappointment by expecting *too* much...)

We'll probably see it this weekend. I think the listing get posted today (or tomorrow) for local theatres for the weekend.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Another spaghetti western starring Clint Eastwood. Co-stars Lee Van Cleef, and Eli Wallach.

Of course I'll soon be watching A Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More.

The English dubbing is horrible. Kinda like watching early Japanese films, where the speakers lips are still moving after their dialog.

One of my favorite movies, if a touch too long. I think Eli Wallach deserves the credit for pushing this movie past "great" into "extraordinary" territory.

OK, so do Sergio Leone and Ennio Morricone.

I can't remember where I read this, but apparently Bad Day at Black Rock (1955) - IMDb is one of Jack Bogle's favorite movies.

This would have been at least a decade ago so it was before Barclays sold iShares to, ahem, BlackRock. I don't know if that has had any effect on Jack's opinion of the movie or its title. Perhaps a question to ask at the next Bogleheads conference ;)
