Questions on how we spend our money and our time - consumer goods and services, home and vehicle, leisure and recreational activities
This is not responsive to this old thread asking about cheap jug wines. But for a nice party with good friends, at least six guests, preferably more, and a special occasion like birthday or anniversay with friends, where can splurge on good wine, a 1.5 liter magnum of a good wine, think a Jordan Cabernet or Caymus at over $150, or a 1.5l of Rombauer Chardonnay at around $80, is a wonderful conversation piece and a great drink and so much nicer than two bottles. Life is too short to drink any bad wines, regardless of bottle size. Good luck.

This is my go-to. I have plenty of fancier, more expensive wines laying down or in the wine fridge. But if I just feel like having red wine with a casual dinner, the Kirkland Cab comes out. Can't beat it for effectively $4/bottle (the magnum is $7.99), and it probably accounts for about half of all red wine consumed under my roof.
