As I recall, long treasuries actually had a slightly better performance than the stock market itself over that time period. There was also a tremendous bull market in stocks from 1984-1999. That is one heck of a wind at the back of investors, more like a hurricane. We had the benefit of a thirty year period of falling interest rates and relatively tame inflation.
It's easy-peasy when yields are falling.
