How is Interactive Brokers Smart Beta Portfolios different from ETFs?

Post by InvestVS » Wed Sep 12, 2018 12:02 am

Interactive Brokers Smart Beta Portfolios are trying to beat or replicate the indexes, how are they different from investing in those indexes directly? Does anybody have any direct experience or suggestions for Interactive Brokers Smart Beta Portfolios?

I live in US and only going to trade in US. Should I use Smart Beta Portfolio or just buy 3 ETFs and do the rebalancing myself? Does Smart Beta Portfolio also do TLH?

Bogle is quoted on this site as saying that smart beta is dumb. I posted a link to someone besides Bogle.

If this is what I think it is, then it’s far different than an ETF. It’s an 8 basis point separately managed account with individual stock holdings, which means you can get the benefit of tax harvesting on the loss side in addition to facing the capital gains.

I never heard of these, but I guess they've been around a few years:

I have seen these and I'm interested, but I haven't spent the time to properly investigate them. Thanks for starting the thread.

In a taxable account, that's a lot of tax lots...

I'm curious. Looks like you have to sign up for an account to see the allocations.
