Symbols are VWILX (Intl growth admiral) and VTIAX (total Intl Index admiral), and here is the tale of the tape:

International growth has beaten international value since 2010. Therefore, international growth funds, whether index or active, are likely to have beaten international blend or value funds.

That said, Vanguard International Growth tracked international growth indexes such as EFG (iShares EAFE Growth) through 2016 but is way ahead over the last two years.

I'm not sure what your point is in asking. There will always be active funds that outperform - sometimes over extended periods. And then some of the same funds underperform - also over extended periods.

So....when growth has its day in terms of, let's say a slowdown in foreign markets, then value and or blend will see the light?

Hello yousha,

Welcome to the forum.
We also have an wiki with lots of good information.

A good page to start is Bogleheads investing_start-up_kit.
The books mentioned in the education section are good to start with.

While this table does not explicitly include international growth vs total international, it illustrates the fact that different subsets of the market randomly vary from each other and that it is meaningless to try to find patterns in a few years over a few other years: https://www.callan.com/wp-content/uploa ... d_2018.pdf

This is why people keep muttering that thing about "previous results . . . "

Vanguard international growth is an active fund.

It has crushed the category average since it inception.

A lot of recent performance have been due to its exposure to Chinese internet CO's.

It has beaten the index fund since total international came out but the most pronounced bit of out performance has been in the last few years.
