CPA fees for S-corp?
Curious as to what others are paying per year for a CPA to prepare/file taxes, W-2s, payroll, etc for a S-corp?

Re: CPA fees for S-corp?
It is really dependent on the COL in your area and the complexity of your 1120S.
It is likely to be in the ranges of $800 - $1200 to $1000 - $1500.

The numbers above sound about right for an 1120S.
I imagine it would be considerably higher if the CPA was doing your payroll (940, quarterly 941, W2/3) plus any state filings and general bookkeeping. You could also have a payroll company handle part or DIY with Quickbooks/TurboTax.

Thanks MP123, I was referring to just the costs for the 1120S. Payroll costs would be in addition.

I am paying 1000 for the S Corp Return. I also pay 100 a quarter for the 941, and State Unemployment and Federal Unemployment Returns. The fee is around 250 for the w-2s and other annual employee returns.
I also pay TurboTax around 100 bucks for the version that will do the corporate return, to help get everything ready for the accountant.

Bay Area here, where everything seems to cost more.
We pay $1500 to do the S-Corp, Sole Proprietor, and personal taxes.
He is worth every penny!

Re: CPA fees for S-corp?
I guess I'm getting off cheap. I pay $350 for my corp taxes and 1120s. I do my own 941s, fed and state tax deposits, UI tax, and use Turbo Tax to produce W-2s, 1099s.
Re: CPA fees for S-corp?
My CPA used to charge a lot more than that, roughly 2500-3000 IIRC. that was for just the 1120S. That was why I switched to doing it myself with TurboTax.

I might need to look into doing some of it myself too. We are paying close to $4000 year, but that includes personal. They do the 1120, w-2, payroll stuff, state tax, unemployment, k1 for partnership, etc. So they are doing a lot. I could probably do some of it to save some at least. Problem is that we signed a contract with them and they take out $360 a month with auto draft right now.

Huh? So you do your own S corp return on Turbotax first, and then give it to your accountant for another 1000?Vanguard Fan 1367 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 19, 2018 3:58 pmI am paying 1000 for the S Corp Return. Bay Area. S-Corp.
CPA about $700 to prepare and file yearly tax returns.
Payroll service $50 per month for everything payroll related.

Re: CPA fees for S-corp?
The thing about S Corp returns (and for that matter Partnership returns, Trusts, 1040 returns with rental property or Sched C with depreciation, etc.) is once the return is set up properly (another big "if"), doing the annual returns is not terribly complicated especially for a single member S Corp. However, doing the 2018 returns with tax reform changes next year will be a challenge although more so for 1040 returns with K1 forms, etc.

I can't handle the Balance Sheet part of the TurboTax and some other issues. The 100 bucks for the TurboTax business is worth it to me to help me organize the information for the accountant.Tachyon wrote: ↑Wed Mar 21, 2018 1:21 amHuh?
