Boglehead-approved personal finance podcasts?

Post by Loyalnine » Fri Mar 09, 2018 8:04 am

Are there any Boglehead-approved personal finance podcasts out there? I love the forum, but consume a ton of audio media while I’m driving and doing stuff around the house.

ChooseFI. It seems to be geared a little more to younger people wanting to be retired at a very early age, but they have covered some interesting and useful topics. The sequence of returns episode was very informative.

I like him too, but I have not heard him ever make a reference to Vanguard or Mr. Bogle.

Fantastic list! I listen to most of these already but will try out the rest.

I would add one more which has recently become my favourite:

Virtually every episode is fascinating, and with unique takes different from the typical personal finance discussions.

Well, I just don't know of a podcast [or any other product] with the "Bogleheads Seal of Approval" . . . looking, looking, looking. Check those recommended above by our forum members, and IF you find some value on the podcast then listen to it. Good luck, y gracias por leer ~cfs~

While engaging and interesting, it is probably more likely than not to steer you away from the Bogleheads investment philosophy. The same goes for the Meb Faber podcast. I do agree that the best way to challenge one's beliefs is to seek out disconfirming evidence, but it can be taken too far. Listening to the Flat Earth Podcast with interviews with the most well-spoken flat earthers in the world may actually make you question the rotundity of our planet.

I really like the new Animal Spirits Podcast with Michael Batnick and Ben Carlson, which is a very Boglehead friendly podcast. Bogleheads might take offence at their remark that "the Bogleheads might be the closest thing the investing world gets to a cult," but other than that it should be a nice listening experience :D

Agree with others, Bloomberg's 'Masters in Business'. Previous guests:

John Bogle
Bogleheads: Larry Swedroe & Rick Ferri
Vanguard chiefs & directors: Bill McNabb, Jack Brennan, Charlie Ellis & Burton Malkiel
Nobel laureates: Paul Krugman, Robert Shiller & Richard Thaler,
and occasionally guests like Harry Shearer & Serena Williams

About 50% of Dave Ramsey's podcast would probably qualify for Boglehead approval. Just heard him give some solid real estate advice on the drive to work this morning. And he'll be the first to tell you to stay the course during market downturns, eschew whole life in favor of term, etc.

The other 50%? Well, it gives you some fun "shouting at the radio" exercise. :D
Stay on target...

The closest to Boglehead approved podcast (that are not from Vanguard) I found and listen are:

1. http://www.talkingrealmoney.com/podcasts/ (funny and entertaining. 100% Bogle style)
2. http://paulmerriman.com/podcasts/ (Paul Merriman. I'd say 90% Boglehead but very good. Huge respect for this guy)

Dough Roller podcast by Rob Berger is excellent. His series that he did this past year called How to Build Wealth on Any Income would be a great place to start for a newbie that listens to podcasts.

White Coat Investor podcast is one I also highly recommend for any young person with high income and a large amount of student debt. His "live like a resident" mantra doesn't literally match up with people that aren't doctors, but it's easily applied to people with other professions.

Two more that I don't think were mentioned by others:

https://www.moneyguy.com/
(Generally pretty good content, seems fairly Bogle-ish)

https://radicalpersonalfinance.com/
(Not for everyone. I have a love/hate relationship with this one. Some episodes are interesting, some are too painful to listen to. Sometimes gets pretty philosophical, which could either be thought provoking and introspective or merely a rant.)

Nice list. Sorry but Jim Cramer is not Boglehead-approved.
You can buy and hold individual stocks (not trade) and Cramer's shows is merely a discovery tool for stocks.
Not everyone wants to buy ETFs or funds for ethical or religious reasons.
Also his CEO interviews are decent.
