I'm 48 and 60% stocks/40% bonds but not because I'm using age minus 10 in bonds
It just fits my current situation

Age minus 13 in bonds. Investment portfolio only, SS and pension excluded from the calculation.
Core Four with nominal bonds and TIPS.

I did at one time use this guideline. I think it's good pre-retirement.

In retirement not so much. Circumstances vary a lot. For example if your needs are met and you are really managing a bequest a bit more growth is likely to work out better.

Me 62 Retired, DW 59
45/55 Stocks/Bonds and Stable Value
I consider Stable Value similar to bonds at 3.25-3.5% return without interest rate risk.
Closer to age-5 in fixed income
After start of SS (FRA or later) and Pensions, will go to 50/50

Currently age bonds at 58 years old. Conservatively I do not count expected pension, only invested money.

If I added my expected pension value to my bond and stable value investments I would be age + 15 in bonds. I sleep well at night.

For those of you not in retirement who have a cash position, is the cash largely your emergency fund?

If not, and apologies if this is a dumb question, but why bother with it?
I think for my last 20 working years I had 6 months post-tax income in cash. Yes, it was our emergency fund. By the time I retired it was a small part of our portfolio.

I cannot remember when I started, but as my wife neared retirement, I was moving some equity savings into bonds. Pensions and social security easily cover all of our non-discretionary expenses. We have about 12 years of discretionary expenses in bonds.

I am 68 years old, and target 50/50. I plan to go to 60/40 when I start taking SS at age 70.

I am currently - age 60 and 50/50. But it's only happenstance. IPS states I will remain at 50/50 until age 70.

Age 57, fixed income 44 or 45%.

I don't follow age - X in bonds. I follow keep in bonds what you cannot afford to lose a la Taylor Larimore. I have a little more in bonds than I need to live on until SS at 70yo. The question is what I will do if the markets tank. I have some extra in fixed income. But I may be reluctant to buy equities in a falling market if it takes me below the amount I need to bridge to SS.

If equities continue to climb from here I will consider buying more bonds.

I am ok with 50-55% in equities. Not too worried about missing out on equity appreciation. Am reluctant to have to go back to work because of financial necessity.

Age 70
33/67 stock/bonds. Very conservative for over a decade and very happy with the results.

Age 65
60/40 stocks/bonds
I plan to stick with age minus 20 in bonds, and only changing my AA once a decade. I plan to be 50/50 in my 70s and 40/60 in my 80s. I haven't yet decided what my AA will be if I make it into my 90s.

Age -10 in bonds by accident of age. I think in fractions or odds. 1/3 bonds. Probably stay that way for quite some time.
