loads and fees Vanguard mutual fund and ETF

Post by HenrysPlan2 » Fri Jan 12, 2018 6:23 pm

I wonder holding vanguard Mutually fund is better or ETF for tax purpose? I know the ETF is more flexible. I also wonder if any loads or fees buying and selling the Vanguard mutual fund or ETF?

Fees for buying and selling will depend on your brokerage firm.

Generally there is no difference between the Vanguard mutual fund and ETF vehicles for tax purposes if investing in the same fund (the funds are structured as a single pool of money with share classes, so mutual funds and ETFs are just two vehicles).

If buying Vanguard mutual funds and ETFs at Vanguard brokerage there are not usually any loads or fees. However there are a few funds which do have purchase fees, so check before you buy. An example is the Vanguard Intermediate-Term Corporate Bond Index Fund Admiral Shares (VICSX) which has a 0.25% purchase fee, while there is no purchase fee on the corresponding ETF (VCIT).

Outside of Vanguad, all bets are off and your own due diligence is advised.

Vanguard fees on purchase / redemption.

They are not loads because the proceeds go to the fund and not the management company, but they are fees. The difference is only significant in so far as whose interests are aligned.

They're very much not on that list (assuming by "emerging market" you mean a stock fund), so take a guess.
