AirBnB my Van?

Post by emanuel_v19 »

Hello,

I am curious, do any of you rent a vehicle through AirBnB? That is, for someone to actually sleep in it and not drive it.

Is this possible?

Or are there other forms or ways I can rent it without using AirBnB?

Craigslist.

If the van is actually a motorhome, there are ways to rent that out. I imagine AirBnB has some minimum standards, such as running water and a toilet.

I've seen people rent tents in their backyards on AirBnb.

I think that I read that someone in New York or one of the boroughs was doing that.

I would put my money on Minneapolis during the Superbowl. It might be a bit chilly in February but some are well heated / insulated.

I've seen airbnb listings for a renovated streamliner on an empty lot in Malibu.

what does your auto-insurer think of the idea? if there's an incident of some kind, will your liability coverage cover it?

I saw someone do it with a cardboard box once. Mind you, it was a large box.

The van will be parked in the driveway.

I think I saw an article about this with photos, but I think the van was not driveable. Pretty though. Flowers planted outside, etc.

I've never used this service, but Turo seems like a better fit for this than AirBnB.

So it will be parked. But could there be another option if the weather is really nice?

Like, starry night. Van go?

Pardon my snobbishness, but I’m not sure I’d want to rent out my van as accommodations to any stranger actually willing to accept the offer. Unless it’s more like a motor home with a bathroom, etc.

Catering to low-end people you would otherwise try to avoid? Or the Boglehead who sticks his wet laundry in a stranger's dryer to save $1.25?

Your neighbors will love you.

Sounds like a good idea to me. In HCOL+ areas (Palo Alto) I've seen people AirBNB a tent in their backyard.

It currently is in Non-op status and no insurance. Not sure where I could find this answer for you

Most definitely but unfortunately the van isn't in its greatest condition or super reliable either.

Would your home owner's insurance cover someone occupying a vehicle in your driveway?

I'd go with the Airbnb strict cancellation policy.

A portalet would do it. A crystal vase with a fresh flower will make a nice photo.
