Negotiate lease payoff?

Post by Rick Rock » Fri Jan 12, 2018 3:02 pm

For various reasons, we would like to purchase the vehicle we have leased for the past few years. We've made the final lease payment. The leasing company website helpfully lists a payoff price.

Is this figure negotiable, and have any fellow BHs successfully negotiated a lease payoff?

Do you negotiate with the leasing company itself or the dealer?

VW if it matters.

Thanks - RR

What did the lease company say when you called to ask? They own the car.

I think negotiation at buyout at end of lease depends on the make. I've heard that luxury brands do lower the buyout but not the more economical cars. Of course, there are general rules with certain makes and it depends on the current local market and the demand of the vehicle. Always, check the selling price of your exact make model to see what it is selling at dealer lots to compare whether or not they negotiate. You may be surprised what you find.
