Virus reading Yahoo news
Virus reading Yahoo news
I frequently read articles on Yahoo news. I frequently get a virus that locks up my computer. It says "this site says you have contacted a virus. Do not turn off your computer or your computer files with be deleted. Call this number .....". It will not let me get out of this screen. I turn off my computer, then turn it back on. I then need to run CC Cleaner. If I do not I will that that evil screen again when I open my browser. I run Windows 10, up to date, Sophos Security Free software. I get the problem using Edge or Firefox browsers. Do you read Yahoo News frequently and do you get this problem? Any suggestions?

Did the voice telling you about "the pornographic site" have an accent, maybe middle-aged Brit woman?bb201 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2018 1:46 pm I frequently read articles on Yahoo news. I have hit it several times. I shut down, restart, nothing amiss. As well I have anti-virus and malware programs, never find anything.

It's been a long time since I've been on Windows, but next time you get a popup try hitting ctrl+w or alt+f4.
Chances are you aren't getting a virus, it's just a popup trying to convince you to send them money.

I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del, got to task manager, and force close the browser when I hit this type of problem. Sometimes they simply force the browser to full-screen mode on you and disallow you from closing it. If its a different exe who knows.
If it keeps happening use a different browser (maybe try Chrome if its happening with FF, etc.).

Strange things go on. For a few months when going to Google I got a bright red screen saying that there is some virus, though it is not bad. But it was not from Webroot and Malwarebytes, and those I trust. Now I no longer see that.

Might try a Chrome Browser w/ Adblock Extension?
Re: Virus reading Yahoo news
i had a family member run into this recently.
what worked for him was deleting the browsing history in his browser (he uses Firefox). that seemed to solve it.
hope that helps
