AAII Discontinues Model Fund Portfolio

Post by Higman » Thu Nov 16, 2017 9:14 am

I subscribe to the American Association of Individual Investors (AAII) and find their monthly journal very educational. However, I just received an email regarding their Model Fund Portfolio, which was a collection of about nine mutual funds and ETFs spread across large, mid and small caps sizes. The email said:

“The Model Fund Portfolio is being discontinued.
After 14 years, the portfolio has not been able to consistently outperform the S&P 500 index as measured by the exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 (SPY).”

While the returns were not bad the simpler approach preached by John Bogle was better. Thanks again John and to this forum contributors.

I do not follow AAII, but I don't think 14 years is long enough to evaluate a strategy.
