Separate Unlinked Vanguard Account

Post by markbco » Mon Nov 13, 2017 9:13 pm

Is there any way to have a separate account at Vanguard that will not be linked to my existing account? I'm looking for separate account number, user id, and password. The Vanguard rep said "no". Fidelity said "yes". But Fidelity's NY MMF fees are too high. Thanks!

Each account will have its own account number.

And each user will have his/her own user id and password. (After all, you only have one Social Security Number, right?)

Each user can have multiple accounts of the same type. And each account can have multiple owners (each with their own user id and password).

Any chance you have a spouse? I wanted to do that for some cash to park for my nieces. My solution was to have one joint account with our money and a separate individual account for other stuff.

OP, what is your goal?

To have beneficiaries named differently on the accounts? To track money from different sources (eg, an inheritance or gift)? To hide money from your spouse?

To hide money from the spouse.... Not really.... But for all intents and purposes, yes.

When you open an individual account, it will show only when you login

We'll just assume that it's for a Christmas/Holiday/Birthday gift fund (for spouse). Perfectly okay.

At TD Ameritrade, separate accounts are the default. You have to go through a process to link accounts if you want that.
