Yeah, just saw an email from Barclays regarding the APY increase to 1.20%, supposedly as of the 25th of July. I wonder how long before Ally and others follow suit.

At this rate, it won't be long until those interest rates are up to the S&P 500 dividend level...

A decent sum in VFIAX has plenty of drawdown potential, among other things.
Tax loss harvesting is not a bad thing, should the occasion arise...

Stay within FDIC limits. If Barclays is doing this it is because they need deposits. Barclays Bank is probably "too big to fail" among international banks, but, still, caution over greed, always in investing cash.

I wish this is a problem for me. In any case, I agree that one should always stay with FDIC limits as other banks such as GS Bank also has 1.2%.

The FDIC limit is $250,000 per account. This would be a lot of $$ per person to have in something that loses to inflation each year, and with the privilege of paying tax on interest earned at your marginal rate.
But for certain short-term situations, it could make sense...

I just looked and American Express Savings is up to 1.25. I'd assumed they would email me when this happened, but they're surprisingly reticent.

You get a 1.5% APY only for balances below $35,000- otherwise it's 0.5%!

Statement below from the All America Bank web site:

"Earns interest of 1.50% APY* calculated on your daily balance of up to $35,000. Amounts over $35,000 earn .50% APY*"
