Experian credit freeze by phone vs online

Post by advice789 » Wed Sep 13, 2017 7:27 am

Has anyone submitted a credit freeze to Experian by phone? How much time for the company to mail you a Pin? Just completed the phone freeze and was confirmed. Used phone as online did not accept . Online was informed to mail a bunch of info to them as alternative. Was not comfortable to use mail and used the phone. Was accepted by phone system at Experian. . Perhaps accepted as called from phone on their record...Anyway, how long to receive pin by mail?

I also couldn't get the Experian online freeze to work for my wife. I don't see a number to call to do it over the phone??

I don't have an answer for you, but seeing how these companies are being flooded with requests in panic, it could be a little longer than whatever is "normal".

Thanks for the phone number. I had the same problem online, but this worked fine to freeze my wife's credit with Experian. It took about 15 minutes.

Has anyone been able to use the Experian freeze online? I get the feeling they are giving us the runaround. I put in on the info and then get kicked out saying I have to physically mail in a bunch of documents. Crazy. The other 2 worked fine.

Not really an answer to the OP's question, but I called the Experian support line today, I had to wait 20 minutes, but then a gracious operator recorded my request to remove a couple of extraneous SSN numbers that were listed on my report (99% sure those were typos of mine in the past, but better be clean), and this was processed a couple of hours later, I checked, everything is fine.

I just thought I would post something positive about one of those credit bureaus, for once!

A little off topic, but I've had issues unfreezing my credit.

Equifax has an old address listed in my credit report that, in my opinion, prevents me from unfreezing my report.

I'll give them a call when it becomes pressing but be prepared for hassles on the back end as well.
