Defensive Mutual Fund Recommendations

Post by Moritat » Tue Sep 12, 2017 10:22 am

In the near future, I would like to invest in several mutual funds. I am looking for funds that have a better than average record during market downturns. Since I already have plenty cash in fixed income investments, I'm looking for funds that invest in mainly stocks as opposed to bonds. Any recommendations on defensive funds would be appreciated.

Take a look at what Vanguard's Consumer Staples (VDC) did during '08. It is the only sector fund in my portfolio. I admit to owning some although probably not enough to make a major difference in the event of a bear market.

Diversification is the only free lunch, and you can't get more diverse than Total Stock Market.
