2016 BOGLEHEADS CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT
Hello Everyone:
We are pleased to announce that our 2016 Bogleheads® Conference will be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with check-in starting at 2PM on Wednesday, September 28, 2016. The meeting will end around 1:30PM on Friday, September 30, 2016.
Our special guest for our Conference is our friend and mentor, Jack Bogle (health permitting). Jack plans to attend specifically to meet with his Bogleheads®, so this is a unique and rare opportunity. Other investing authorities expected to attend and sign books or participate as panel members in the Q&A with the Experts are authors Christine Benz, Dr. Bill Bernstein, Laura Dogu, Taylor Larimore, Mel Lindauer, Mike Piper, and Allan Roth. And we’re excited to announce that Gus Sauter, the former Chief Investment Officer at Vanguard, will be joining us again this year.
We'll start with check-in followed by a wine and cheese reception on Wednesday afternoon. After breakfast on Thursday morning, we’ll meet with Jack Bogle for a presentation and an extended Q&A session with Jack. After lunch, there will be book signings and personal discussions with Jack and our authors and experts. There will also be a simultaneous breakout session as well as an ongoing wiki demonstration. Then on Thursday evening, we’ll visit Vanguard. After breakfast on Friday, we’ll hear from Gus Sauter, followed by the Q&A sessions with our Panel of Experts.
The registration fee for this meeting is US$260 per person. This non-refundable and non-transferable fee covers the wine and cheese reception on Wednesday, breakfast, lunch, break snacks, a light evening meal on Thursday following the Vanguard visit, breakfast on Friday, and the meeting room rental and audio equipment that we need for the various functions.
Registration is now open. Space is limited. We suggest that you make your online reservation now and then send in your registration fee promptly to ensure getting one of the available spots. In previous years, we’ve sold out very early (in just a few weeks last year) and we expect to do so again this year. There will be no wait list, so if you want to join us, you’ll need to act promptly.
To register for the Conference, please go to our simple online registration at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1R84Uyb ... 8/viewform. Just open the link, complete and submit the form, and then mail your check (payment must be received to complete registration). If you have any problems or questions, contact us at: BogleheadsConference@gmail.com
Also check out the conference website... https://sites.google.com/site/bogleheadsmeeting/
Once your payment is received, you will be officially registered. You will then be advised on the procedure for reserving a room at the Conference hotel as well as airport to hotel transportation options. Our preferred Conference hotel discounted rate is $144 per night (king or double queen) plus 9% tax. There is also a reduced rate of $154 per night for those who want to spend additional time visiting the historic Philadelphia area. The hotel only holds a limited number of rooms for us at these special rates, so be sure to make your reservations as soon as you receive the hotel booking information. Our block of hotel rooms sold out quickly last year, and those who attempted to book rooms later had to find other accommodations.
We look forward to another exciting event.

Re: 2016 BOGLEHEADS CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Mel,
Thank you for letting us know. I'm so happy I'll be able to attend this year. I just filled out the registration form, and put the check in the late mail.
It will be so nice to see Mr. Bogle again, and the friends i've made at the reunions, through the years.
I posted this announcement at our Bogleheads site on Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/Bogleheads/?fref=ts
and the SF/Bay Area Diehards local chapter website, https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/bay ... hards/info
as well as emailing all members. I know the 2016 Conference will be an amazing time, as always.

Thank you for organizing the conference. In future years, would you please consider holding it over a weekend (to make it easier on work schedules)?
Re: 2016 BOGLEHEADS CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT
I sent the money in and DW and I are looking forward to our 3rd BH conference. I was hoping too that Taylor would be able to attend. I am grateful to have met Taylor, his son and daughter in law at the conference in 2013.

Re: 2016 BOGLEHEADS CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT
Yes, if you can only attend one day, Thursday would be my choice. We have a presentation by Jack Bogle, a fireside chat with Jack and Bill Bernstein, a chance to get your books signed and chat with Jack and the other authors and a trip to visit your money at Vanguard, followed by a light meal after returning to the hotel. A very busy day from early morning on.The Wizard wrote:Friday is just a half day, so go Thursday if you can only do one day.Mel Lindauer wrote:Not sure I understand what you're asking. However, as I mentioned in my previous post and as The Wizard correctly stated, there is no single day registration so the full fee is required for registration.

Thank you Mel,

Re: 2016 BOGLEHEADS CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT
Dear Taylor,
I know I speak for everyone when I say, you will be missed and the reunion won't be the same without you. I hope your circumstances change so you can in fact, attend. =-)
Thank you for providing the link to the wonderful article written by Jason Zweig titled, "Here Come the Bogleheads." That was the very first reunion I attended and it was absolutely magical. This was when I first met you, Mel, and Mr. Bogle; in that order. You all three give the best hugs!
My four fondest memories were meeting you three for the first time, and then having Mr. Bogle himself give us the grand tour of the Vanguard Campus; throughout the building, the boardroom, and his office. Security is so different these days, but that memory will stay with me forever!
With best wishes to you always,
Kathleen

Re: 2016 BOGLEHEADS CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT
Oh Taylor,
I'm so happy to hear that you will be attending! I'm not usually very, "Pushy," but for you it is so extremely important.
We're all thankful for Mel's, "Badgering," too. =)
I remember one year, both you and Mr. Bogle could not attend. That was the year he was so ill, but being it was Mr. Bogle, the hospital he was in found a way for him to be able to talk to the entire room of his Bogleheads. I remember there not many dry eyes in the place. It was really mixed emotions in that I was so happy to hear his voice, but so desperately worried about his health that I was crying, along with many others. He was so missed, just like you would be.
I know Gail will be thrilled to receive your registration form.
Fondly yours,
Kathleen

OK. I have just registered for my first Boglehead Conference. (Mel's limited-quantity tactic pushed me to do it tonight.) Will get check in mail tomorrow.
That said, If there are any solo female travelers who are interested in economizing by sharing a room, please PM me to discuss.

Re: 2016 BOGLEHEADS CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT
OK folks, registration is closed for now while we wait for those who registered to pay. If everyone pays, we're sold out.
If you signed up, you need to get your check in promptly (by March 1st). If anyone who signed up fails to get their check in by then, we'll open up the registration process again to allow folks to take the place of those who signed up but failed to get their payment in on time.
So, if you're interested in attending but didn't make the cut, you can add your name to this thread (below) and if any spots open up because of non-payment, I'll notify you via PM after March 1st.

Re: 2016 BOGLEHEADS CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT
Long time lurker, first time poster. Would love to attend the conference if someone slacks off on paying.

Re: 2016 BOGLEHEADS CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT
As some people appear to be holding something (admission to the 2106 Bogleheads Conference) that other people may value (those on the waitlist), perhaps I should set up a market to allow individuals to buy and sell admission to the Conference? Assuming that is Ok with Mel, etc., of course.
I would just make a small bid/ask spread on each transcation. (The definition of "small" may be open to interpretation by some, though).
Sort of like a StubHub, but I would act as market maker.
Good idea?

No, it's not a good idea. Apparently you overlooked the NON-TRANSFERABLE part of my announcement. Previously, before we included that stipulation, someone has actually tried to sell their Conference spot. It ain't gonna happen.ModifiedDuration wrote:As some people appear to be holding something (admission to the 2106 Bogleheads Conference) that other people may value (those on the waitlist), perhaps I should set up a market to allow individuals to buy and sell admission to the Conference? Well, I suspect we are all economic beasts of prey......ModifiedDuration wrote: Sort of like a StubHub, but I would act as market maker.

That said, I recognize this is (hopefully) said with tongue in cheek.......otherwise, the much-feared" Wrath of Lindauer" will descend upon you..
