Turbo Tax Premier 2015 Free @ Fidelity (premium customers)

Post by HopeToGolf » Wed Dec 30, 2015 12:22 am

Fidelity is offering 2015 TurboTax premier free for certain types of customers. As afar as I can tell, the product is offered free of charge if you are a Premium Services customer.

We're a premium customer, and I'm just seeing the standard $20 off an inflated price offer. :(

I chatted with Fido about this and the rep could not tell me who qualified for the free offer. I also saw the $20 discount

I haven't seen anything on it yet, but it would be nice.

OP .... love your screen name ..... living in the midwest I'm getting in some indoor putting and hitting balls off the mats, but look forward to spring already!

HopeToGolf,

Thank you for this information. I was able to download a free copy of TurboTax Premier via the link to Intuit under "Guidance & Retirement --> Taxes" on fidelity.com. (My account is designated "Private Client".)

Thanks worked for me. Did as bawr said. In Fidelity body of the next screen was a $20 off offer, however in the right margin of the page was a TurboTax banner stating Premier was free. Clicked on that, and you can download Premier for free from TT website (PC or MAC). Oddly Deluxe is still $24.99.

I looked at the offer after I read these comments, and I think its a little bit misleading - it says "start for free". You then pay with your refund, with a $34.99 transaction fee. That's how I interpret it anyway.

I was able to download it for free. Typically, you have to pay to do that

That said, clearly Fidelity is being selective about to whom they offer the free product. Reports have come back that even some premium clients are offered only a discount.

The UI is a mess for this one. Can someone try the following and confirm?
As listed above, log in, then go to Guidance & Retirement > Taxes.
In the third column under the image, I see "save on turbotax", which links to the "up to $20 off".
In the fourth column I see "turbotax online premier". Clicking that link shows "up to $55 off" and I'm able to navigate to a screen where I can get the online or download of TT premier for free.
Edit: It says "1 state download".
Going to get permission to use the free one and give it a try.

I tried again this morning and the free download was available - it was not yesterday for me (or I did something wrong, which is more likely). Thanks for the heads-up.

And confirmed, 1 free copy of turbotax premier including 1 state. Not bad.

Interesting and very confusing--TT is at it again.
One month ago I purchased Delux-with State(on line version with efile) it contains all the bells and whistles I had in last yrs Premier.

I have been refunded 100% by FIDO for several years. I send them the invoice and they post the $ to my account.
Looking at the free Premier offer and comparing to the Delux on the FIDo web site, it looks like TT is taking SCHD out of Delux again
But it is included in the 2015 download I already have ???

jerry

ps--last week they also sent me the CD of the same??

Sched D is in the CD version of TT Basic. However I do not think it is in the online version of Deluxe

that is the confusion--it is in my online version!--unless they sent me premier?

I followed these instructions and was able to get the free download of TT Premium. I was also able to download the state forms without charge. Thanks, the link is not intuitive, and I don't think I would have discovered this on my own.

Hi,

Are you premium customers?
I don't see 4th column with TT premier.

Thanks.

If the link to TT offer does not have personally identifiable information, can you please share the link.

I think the link is customer-specific. But the below screenshot is what I see on the Guidance & Retirement > Taxes page, with the link in the fourth column circled in red.

Is anyone who got it _not_ at the Private Client level? Did anyone at the Private Client level not get it?

My 401k and private brokerage is through them.
I did not get the offer at this time. I only get the "Save $20" offer.
Not sure how they are targeting folks.

I'm a long term Private Client. My page gives me the "save $20" offer. May call to complain. We'll see.

Yeah, same here....save $20. And the link to $20 is 'up to $20', for Premier it is $15 off. And that price is still greater than prices at Amazon & Costco.

I would be surprised if the Fidelity link once at the TT site is personalized. Once you click out of Fidelity it is likely just a page at TTax that has lower prices.

Hmmm. Not sure what to say. I log in to my Fidelity account, and go to the page indicated, then click on the "Learn More" link. That takes me to the Intuit site, and if I look at the Download options (bottom right), it asks me to click what things apply to me. I click "Sold stocks or bonds" and it tells me that I should download TurboTax Premier for $0.00. I don't know why it may be different. I'm Fidelity Private Client customer, but I'm not even convinced that mattered.

Since I don't know what category of Fidelity customer I am, I bet it's not "premium" or anything fancy.

I'm shown a $20 off ad, and the link it gives me is: http://turbotax.intuit.com/affiliate/fidelityret, which then shows me $30, $40, $75, and $80 "discounted" prices on $40, $50, $90, and $100 products, respectively.

Guess I'll be printing out the free fillable forms myself again this year--always a good time!

Also Private client and only the $20 version available. My wife has a small Roth at Fidelity and she had the free version showing. So, I don't think there is any rhyme or reason for why it shows on some and not others that I can tell. All of the product offers and "good Deals" from Fidelity only get mailed to her too :happy Private Client status is as meaningless as the Flagship status minus 25 free trades I guess.

Sounds like the private client status doesn't matter ..... We have seven figures at Fidelity and have been customers for decades and were only getting the $20 off offer, so i reached out and was told we didn't qualify but they wouldn't tell me what it took to qualify .... now they are following up with our "relationship manager" to see if they can get us the free one .... other than this odd situation everything at Fidelity has always been excellent ....

I'm also in private client group and only the $20 off shows up in the 4th column. I verified that in the upper right, it still says private client group.

I just called Fidelity. My rep told me that the free TurboTax is only for clients with Managed Accounts, ostensibly because of the large number of trades they have on their accounts, to avoid their having large accountant fees. Can anyone corroborate this? Did anyone without a managed account get a free download?

Thanks for the detailed instruction and screenshot. I was able to get the download for free as well.

Was able to see the link in the 4th column from two different accounts.

When I log in to Fidelity, it says I'm "Active Trader Services" with no free turbo tax just the discount.

However, my parents are Premium Services as they have managed accounts with Fido. They do get the free download and they won't be using it as they have an accountant. I normally buy Turbo tax on disc as I don't do the cloud thing. So my plan is to use the their download for my return.

Does anyone know if the download is tied to SSN or anything? I haven't downloaded yet and probably wait to try it till I have my tax docs first.

Thank you hopetogolf OP you just saved me $78. I love the boglehead site.

The free offer was not showing up when I logged on to fido. I emailed fido and told them I had heard of the offer and they said
It was not offered on all premium accounts but they did offer me a refund if I sent them a receipt.

Reporting in that I also got TT Premier Fed & State for free.
Logged into Fidelity and went to taxes page, clicked on TT ad in right margin of screen.
Logged into TT, worked all the way through to checkout (but didn't file yet since waiting for one document).
It let me pay for $0...and emailed that receipt as well.
