What kind of car are you driving?
What kind of car do you drive for daily commuting?
I drive a 09 Murano, aka. 'Mo. It is actually an 08 but they labeled it an 09.

Re: What kind of car are you driving?
1998 Plymouth Voyager van purchased new 14 years ago. Five years ago I had nice new 350Z sports car. Soon afterwards we started building and working on a new vacation home. Now I needed a truck so I sold the Z and purchased a used Ford F150. The idea was to own the truck for only as long as we needed it; then sell it and buy another car for me.
Fast Forward....sold the truck two years later for more than I paid for it. We had the van already so the plan was to drive it until I decided on what car I wanted. About that time the economy started to tank so I decided to hold off purchasing a new vehicle. Now I'm more Bogle-ish. The van has almost no resale value but it is still running fine. I'd rather keep the van and have the cash in the bank then own yet another depreciating asset. Well.....for now anyway.

2005 Acura MDX that I bought new. Just hit 100k miles over Thanksgiving. I'll give it about two more years then swap for a newer model.
Re: What kind of car are you driving?
me: 2003 Ford Taurus wagon; ~108,000 miles; bought used with 35,000 miles in Jan 2005.
wife: 1998 Ford Escort; ~102,000 miles; bought used with 25,000 miles in Mar 2000.
I've never bought a new car, and the most I've ever paid was $15,6000. And that wasn't for my most recent car - my Taurus wagon was $14,2000. We drive them until some major repair is looming, then buy another used car.
My wife works at home, and I now have a ridiculously short commute (3 miles to work), but in the past I had many years of 30,000+ miles/year commuting. I'm from Detroit, which actually may have inoculated me against automobile status envy. Or maybe it was starting out with low-paying jobs in the decade or so after college.

I have two cars. Hope that doesn't bar me from the Bogleheads!
1998 Lexus GS400 with 198,000 miles on it. In 2007 I bought a 2003 Porsche Boxster S. Currently has 55,000 miles on it. I told myself then that if I got the Porsche, I would drive the Lexus into the ground. Will probably start looking for a new daily driver next summer.
Wife has a 2005 BMW 325xi with about 50,000 miles on it.

2000 Honda Accord, 170000 miles.
Re: What kind of car are you driving?
LOL.. perfect time to ask me that one. When I started to smell the finish line in the summer of 2003 I bought a 2004 Jeep Liberty, one of the first 5, 2004 models in town through a fleet contact. Tomorrow morning is the last time I will drive it since tomorrow afternoon I pick up a new Mercedes C350 Sports Sedan to make my retirement and 65th b-day in 31 days all the more enjoyable..
Re: What kind of car are you driving?
I drive a 2006 Mercedes C230 and bought it used about 3 years ago. It currently has 64,000 and I plan to drive it for another 8 to 10 years. My wife drives a 2011 Sienna Minivan.

In the event that I do actually drive, '97 Nissan pickup. Purchased for $2500 in '03, previous owner was pretty much trying to just unload it. 95% of my commuting is done by bike, believe I have put 5k miles on my truck in the last 3yrs and 1500 of those were moving from Texas to Utah in June. Somewhere around 145k total miles on the odometer.

Baby #2 is on the way though, so I might be needing a bigger second car. We'll see though. I'd rather drive it until the wheels fall off.

A 2000 Corolla and a 2000 Windstar. I drive less than 3000 miles per year and haven't felt much of a need to replace either. My next car will be another convertible, though, they're marvelous for letting stress melt away.

Me: 2004 Honda Accord LX Sedan I4 Manual with 165k
Wife: 2012 Honda Civic LX Sedan Auto with 30k
Figured I will keep the Accord until we need a larger vehicle for my wife and future kids then I will get the Civic and retire the Accord. Accord needs a transmission (syncros) and could use a clutch (light) but I think I can baby it until it's retirement (200k?). I drove it hard and I wouldn't change that if I had to do it again.

I don't commute since I'm retired, but I do still drive. Either a 2009 Impala or 2000 Silverado, whichever gives me the urge on any given day.

Re: What kind of car are you driving?
1995 Subaru Legacy station wagon, 140K miles. Drive about 4-5K miles per year now.
2009 Honda Civic, 30K miles. Drive about 9-10K miles per year.
I don't commute because I am retired. My wife is not retired and takes the bus plus subway to work.
The Subaru is great for hauling bicycles, yard stuff, whatever, which is why I own it, and will probably keep fixing it as long as I can find spare parts. The Civic gets between 42-45 mpg when we drive it on long trips, so if I had to replace it I would stick with a similar size car. I have absolutely no reason to own a more expensive car either in the hybrid category or just because I needed the supposed luxury.
If you are puzzled by the mileage quote I give for the Honda it is because I can always beat the advertised mileage estimates.

2002 Nissan Pathfinder with almost 90K miles. It has poor gas mileage, but was purchased new when I had a commute of 3 miles each way. Now I work at home and have a commute from the 2nd floor to the 1st floor. I plan to keep this vehicle for a few more years.

Re: What kind of car are you driving?
A 2010 BMW 335d. It is a joy to drive, and purchase, operational, and maintenance costs are on par with many RVs, boats, horses, swimming pools, travel, or other expensive hobbys that bring many of us pleasure. In the past I drove a Toyota Corolla and a Ford Ranger until the point I was well on track financially. You can't take it with you to the grave.

Re: What kind of car are you driving?
We went down to one vehicle years ago, I bicycled to work for five years and now we are both retired, spend months each year in China so don't drive much. What we do drive is longer distances to visit family. I have always been a bit of a gear head, what I drive matters to me. We are now in a 2009 VW Jetta Sportswagen, tis is a rare bird with the 6 speed transmission and the very nice 2 litre TSI turbo engine. It wants premium fuel but on the road trips it returns a real 31 MPG. The higher fuel costs are balanced by the smile I get on my face when I get on it as I merge into high speed interstate traffic.
Bought it certified used a year ago, 72K miles.
