An extra $1000 from Mel or a couple of members agreeing to not post for a week.

What a generous offer, thank you Mel! I am in for the third time, this time it's $100.

I made an assumption that posting about a donation does not qualify as posting. Otherwise, I am a man of my word.

I know that the Forum founders and managers have strong opinions about paid memberships, and we probably don't want PBS / NPR style fund drives.
But, I was distressed to realize that it was a long time since I had made a contribution, and I was only reminded by others' responses to Sandy and the outage.
Maybe the powers that be can consider other contribution options?
One might be an automatic (monthly, quarterly) contribution via PayPal.
Another might simply be a reminder e-mail. Nag me annually.
Making a donation to Bogleheads.org is kind of like rebalancing the portfolio. It's something that needs to be done at least annually, and it decreases risk while increasing returns.

Long time lurker, already put in 20 but I registered to leave a message here for another 20 towards Mel's most generous pledge.
Thank you all for the great information over the years, it has saved me and my family a lot of money.
Arguably better than that, this place and it's amazing information and individuals have given me something new to learn/read/reflect on an everyday basis.

Double win. You get the money from Mel AND you shut down Valuethinker.

(with the meta exception of these threads... ).
How about we get the money from Mel and we don't shut down Valuethinker? I like that deal much better.
Mel waited until we mailed the maximum donation we can afford.
Best wishes.

There's plenty more where your first donation came from, my friend, so don't cry poor-mouth to me!
Besides, you've got those annuities to make sure you don't run out of money, so all the rest is extra. If for no other reason, you should want to chip in some more just to make me have to match it.
It is very kind of you to say that-- one attracts mixed reactions, one never really knows how one is perceived.
Thank you.
My goal in this is $25k. If we can get $25k then we've really done something.
I can't claim credit for this-- or rather, I had the idea to contribute at this moment of need, another had the idea that I should *publicly* proclaim that point. It is that other who is the key instigator here.

Yes, thanks for the motivation, Mel, as I'd "just not gotten around" to donating. Great reunion. Thanks as well for all the other inspired things you do. Btw, paypal worked great.

$0 to $100,000 2.2% + $0.30 $2.50 fee on a $100 donation
Whats preferred, a check or PayPal. I hate writing checks but if in the long run PayPal incurs less overhead I will do it that way.
Do whichever you prefer, I'm happy either way . The cost of checks is maybe 2 minutes processing time and this month we'll probably run over our free transactions limit, so there will be a bank fee of 75 cents per check.
If we donate via the John Bogleheads center you get 50% more due to Uncle Sam chipping in. Would that be assured of getting to you or do you prefer direct contributions, albeit for 1/3 less?
