I sent you a private message advising that I will be attending the Jan meeting.

Thoughts for discussion.
How, where does one learn to do "Settlement Fund" accounting.

A discussion on withdrawal strategies. Taxes?

Thanks,

Hello South Florida Bogleheads 8-)
Reminder for the Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, meeting at 12 noon - please see up-thread for details.

Several Bogleheads have asked whether Taylor's new book on the "Three Fund Portfolio" will be available at our meeting.

As of this time, the publisher has told us they "don't believe we will be out by January 21," so unfortunately we may not have the book available.

We will, however, have Taylor with us and for sure, he will discuss all matters and answer all questions regarding the Three Fund Portfolio with his experienced financial savvy  and his usual grace and kindness :D

We are happy that Larry Auton (Boglehead mingstar) will again be joining us for our next meeting :D

Larry is also the tireless computer tech who maintains the Bogleheads computer server and keeps it running smoothly today.

Many thanks to the organizers of yesterday's South Florida chapter meeting that drew a large turnout of dedicated Bogleheads, some new and some 'vintage' but all interested in gathering to share ideas and of course see and hear from our guru Taylor Larimore. Taylor was as always warm, kind and generous in both sharing his wisdom and feeding the gathering.

A special appreciation to Miriam2 who worked hard and long to arrange the details and serve as emcee for our gathering. Event planning is not easy and Miriam made it look that way--thank you for setting up such a great day!

Hello Bogleheads,

We had our 2018 South Florida Bogleheads Chapter meeting on Sunday from Noon to 2pm.
It was great to meet fellow Bogleheads with a good mixture of old and new faces. We had Bogleheads from Fort Myers and Orlando among us.

Miriam was the chief organizer of the meeting and deserves a lot of thanks and praise for the excellent organization.

After our initial introductions (which had a touch of AA meeting about them as one Boglehead noted :-) )
The main topics of discussion were

1. Assessing Risk assessment during natural disasters.
What amount of emergency funds and cash should one have during such situations?
We discussed various strategies like keeping enough cash, using mobile payment applications for payment, etc.

2. Vanguard Fund Transactions accounting.
It looks like after Vanguard moved the majority of accounts to Brokerage service, some users are having problems with using the transactions with Quicken and other software.

3. Vanguard Trust Planning and services.
There was also discussion about how Vanguard provides one of the best Trust Planning and related services and are very cost effective and don't have conflict of interests that plague other financial firms.

The Larimore family once again generously provided us with sandwiches and Miriam brought snacks and drinks.
We celebrated Taylor's 94th Birthday as we finished our meetup and I look forward to celebrating many more of them.

Below are a few pictures from the meeting.

Thank you LazyNihilist for your nice meeting outline and your wonderful photos :happy We had 52 Bogleheads who signed in and probably a few more who arrived later.

We also were fortunate to have several Bogleheads from the Philadelphia chapter join us, as well as snowbirds from Ohio, New Jersey and Chicago. We hope you enjoyed the "balmy" South Florida weekend 8-)

Dear Taylor and the Larimore clan - thanks for the great sandwiches, I assure you, no one left the meeting hungry :beer

A special thanks to Taylor who through his posts has greatly enhanced my personal portfolio and a Happy Birthday wish as well. The sandwiches and snacks capped off a great event. Actually, Rick Ferri and I did come down to attend one of your group's meetings a couple of years ago. IIRC, it was to celebrate one of Taylor's many birthdays. :-)

Perhaps I'll be able to join you and your group at one of your future meetings. It's a bit of a drive (about 500 miles round trip).

Thanks for taking the reins of the South Florida Bogleheads Local Chapter. Based on the attendance figures, you're obviously doing things right.

Mel

Please pencil in our next local chapter meeting on Sunday, July 1, 2018, from 12 noon to 2:00 pm in Hollywood.
