Is there a sign up sheet for this? This will be at least the third "SoFL Bogleheads chapter" meeting. I am hopeful that we can find an adequate venue to hold the many folks who have expressed an interest in attending. Perhaps a contribution to the cause would be appropriate I will be happy to contribute a few bucks to the cause, after all the Bogleheads have done for me

No such suggestion we know you Palm Beachers are highly sophisticated, impeccably dressed and well-behaved. But the only available Palm Beach venue suggested by a Palm Beacher was the Blue Martini Lounge on Rosemary Ave. http://www.bluemartinilounge.com and, while beautiful, it simply is not quiet enough for our meetingS&L1940 wrote:Not taking offense at the suggestion that folks north of Miami are not as sophisticated and well behaved as the Miami bunch

Thank you for responding everyone, duly noted.
jdb - are you coming in your new Tesla? So is TF Hutch. I guess we are a Tesla group
mikeal - looking forward to seeing you again, nice to meet DW
BogleTails + DW - welcome! you'll enjoy the meeting
For those who contacted us through the gmail account, we'll contact you there.
The location will be posted as soon as it is firmed up. We are open for topic suggestions, although since tax season is upon us before we know it and we have a CPA in our midst we thought we would discuss taxes and mutual funds, tax efficient placement, etc. And also we enjoy a nice just-talk-finance-&-ask-Qs. And we eat well, Taylor treats us to delicious sub sandwiches

Re: South Florida Local Chapter
I would like to attend the upcoming SFL Bogleheads meeting January 22, 2017. Is this post an adequate RSVP or is there a sign-up process? As a fairly new member I have not attended any previous meetings. I live in Ft. Lauderdale.
Re: South Florida Local Chapter
Yes I would like to attend, I posted a few months in advance that I was interested in attending the meeting last summer in the Grove but a few days prior to the meeting it was stated that the venue booked. Once a venue is found I would be most grateful for any advice on how to get my name on the list to attend. Thanks
Re: South Florida Local Chapter
I am interested in attending. Thanks for the heads-up, Mariam 2.

Oh Dang...we will only be in town until the 9th. Since my husband is on the verge of retirement, I hope we can join the next time round. BTW, for future reference, I have access to my homeowners association meeting room in Broward Cty. It isn't glamorous, but it's quiet and it's free

Our Jan. 22, 2017, meeting will be held in the Miami Brickell area from 12 noon to 2:00 pm.
We have a large room with space for everyone and we have our own CPA for a Tax Discussion. Please RSVP, however - if you have not already - so we have a good idea how many to expect. If we have already welcomed your attendance in this thread, there is no need to re-RSVP
Location -
1001 Brickell Bay Drive, Suite #1400
The Aon Building (also called the Brickell Bay Office Tower)
Entrance is through the front door lobby
Directions -
From I-95, exit SW 8 Street, go east
Go across Brickell Ave, make first right onto Brickell Bay Drive
Building is down a block on the left
Parking - street parking, using coins or pay-by-phone or CC
Taylor will be providing delicious sandwiches It is difficult to discuss taxes on an empty stomach.

Re: South Florida Local Chapter
We had our South Florida Bogleheads Chapter meeting yesterday from Noon to 2pm. Below are some brief highlights from the meeting.
Thanks to clevername our chapter leader for donating his time and beautiful office for our meeting. The meeting was held at Brickell Bay Drive and the view from the office, overlooking Fisher Island and Key Biscaye, was stunning. Miriam did a wonderful job for the preparations for the meeting. Arthur made sure Bogleheads could find the office and Taffy received us as we entered the office and gave us our name tags.
It was another wonderful meetup of Bogleheads. There were also a fair number of new Bogleheads who were at the Chapter meeting for the first time.
The main topic of discussion was Taxes and Tax Efficient Placement of Funds.
Clevername went over various changes to tax filing dates, from previous years, and filing requirements for individuals. While we discussed the current tax filing requirements, there was some discussion if it would be better to change Asset Allocation because of changes to tax policy from a new administration. Taylor wisely pointed out that the best policy would be to 'Stay The Course'.
Miriam brought copies of notes for Tax Efficient Placement of funds and distributed it among the attendees.
We discussed how the Bogleheads Wiki is one of the most upto date and detailed financial resource. Thanks to Lady Geek, Barry Barnitz and many other Bogleheads for maintaining this wonderful resource.
We talked about the history of how Bogleheads was setup. We were fortunate to have Larry Auton with us and he told us how he and Alex Frakt were independently trying to make the Morningstar forums easier to read and then decided to join forces and setup Bogleheads. It was also decided that Bogleheads would be moderated to stop the trolling that usually goes on in internet forums. Thanks to LadyGeek and many other tireless moderators on Bogleheads, I feel we are one of the best forums financial and non-financial on the internet. Bogleheads is currently receiving 2-4 million hits a day and sometimes there could be 'micro-outages'. Larry is planning on moving the server from its current location to a Colocation center for even better uptime.
There was also a discussion on how if we use the Amazon link from the boglheads.org home page a small percentage of the Amazon donation goes to help fray the costs of running this popular and well loved website. The consensus was it would be easy if the Amazon link from bogleheads.org page was bookmarked by users on their desktop or smartphones, that way they need not go to bogleheads.org page before visiting Amazon.
Thanks to Joyce and Michael Larimore for bringing delicious sandwiches, cookies and beverages for everyone.
Finally, we closed the meeting by celebrating Taylor's 93rd birthday. Miriam bought a small cake and we all sang Taylor Happy Birthday.
Looking forward to many more Boglehead meetups.

It was a wonderful meeting as always-
My wife and I both enjoyed speaking with the really nice people that we have grown to know from the past meetings...
The venue was quite a fine view too with ample parking.
Being in IT it always astounds me to hear Larry's statistics - Our website gets between 2 and 4 million hits/DAY! WOW!!!

Hi:
I was wondering if you would like to fashion a guest author blog entry from your forum post for our site's blog. I fashioned a first cut edit as a beginning template for transference. The bolded items are headers, and the numbers indicate a subheader. For reference, we added Upcoming events | Financial Page to the blog.
