Let me know if you want a meeting in South-West Florida (Naples/Ft.Myers) and I'll set it up. To my knowledege no one is setting up meetings in South-East Florida (Miami area). Perhaps someone would like to volunteer to be that region's meeting coordinator.

I'm in Fort Lauderdale. I'd be open to a meeting -- but what would we talk about? Is this more of a support group for indexers, or do we just sit around and chat?

Not trying to be obtuse -- this is a real question.

Well, I'm now here in Wellington. I would look forward to an initial meeting to see how it goes. I hope that it could be planned so that Taylor and Mel could attend. I'll bring my copy of Guide to Retirement Planning for them to sign!

I would also very much appreciate the opportunity to get some feedback on a concept I call Period Asset Allocation Planning. It 's similar to the bucket concept but with some variations. I figure about 20 minutes worth of discussion.

I'd also like to hear some discussion about immediate annuities: whether to buy, when to buy, how much to buy, fixed vs. indexed.

Here's the way I manage the meetings:

- introductions: everyone introduces themselves and gives a bit of background info.

- first of all, I request that everyone who has questions and concerns to write them down and bring them up during the meeting so that the group's collective knowledge and experience might be used to solve them.

- I usually have a short presentation on some topic of current interest. I invite others to do the same.

- Sometimes I have a guest speaker on topics I am not that familiar with or simply another way to look at things. Very interesting and educational.

- No free chicken dinners or open bar. Several of us usually go to dinner after the meeting.

I have yet to hear from anyone who attended these meetings that they were dissapointed or that they wasted their time. Guaranteed that you will be entertained, educated and get good replies to your questions. The last meeting I attended was arranged by Richard Woods who is the Orlando/Ocala area local coordinator. Rick Ferri was the guest speaker and we had a great time.

I'd be very interested in meeting in the Tampa area or driving to Orlando if at the right time.

Thank you.

Yes! Dade/Broward/Palm Beach would cover the area. Maybe alternate meetings btwn 3 counties, or else meet regularly in Broward (geographic center)?

Though I live in Oklahoma, I have a place in Fort Lauderdale and would love to visit with other Bogleheads! I'm in Fort Lauderdale at least 9 weeks a year. I would think Fort Lauderdale would be perfectly situated (geographically) to cover the WPB to Miami area.

Lots of expressed interest. Here's what we need to move forward:

1. One member would need to agree to be the local chapter coordinator. That person doesn't have to be a guru, but would coordinate with the other members to determine meeting dates, locations and agendas.
2. That coordinator would provide me with a name and e-mail contact so that I can add the new chapter to the Local Chapters Map so others can find your group and make contact. (I suggest a throw-away google or yahoo e-mail address that you'd use for just this purpose. It will be public on the map, so you'd want to avoid spam coming to your real e-mail address.)
3. The name of the chapter (Miami, South Florida or whatever you'd like to be called.)
4. PM me with that information.

Once I have that information, I'll assign your group the next Local Chapter # and add your group to the map. Then you'll be in business and would be able to make use of this Local Chapters sub-form to arrange meetings, keep in touch with members, poll members on meeting dates, locations, etc.

Good luck!

I am in Palm Beach County (Boynton-Delray-Boca area), retired, and willing to travel to Miami if that is the most convenient location. I would help but not as lead coordinator.

Clevername has stepped forward and agreed to be the Local Chapter coordinator. So it's official; the South Florida Bogleheads Local Chapter is the latest chapter to be added to our ever-growing list of local chapters.

Good luck to our newest Local Chapter. You're a very lucky group since you'll have Taylor as a member!

I'm excited. Which county? I'd recommend Broward being that we can capture the tri-county area without anyone having to travel across two counties.

Hello everyone, I'm josh, the "South Florida bogleheads president" as it were. I'm sorry I haven't responded to your emails but I've been crazy busy at work the past few weeks - tax season and all. I'm game for a meet up on an early Sunday afternoon but that's about the only time I have available until late April or May, and someone else will have to coordinate. I'll check in periodically but for the most part I'll be lurking

Lemme see... google travelocity, cheap airfare sacramento to miami... No. That's a budget buster. :annoyed

Hmmm, the red-eye from SFO arrives in under 5 hours... good seats for < $500, double-plus good, get a free sailing lesson, chicken something-or-other, catch some salsa in old town, exotic drinks...meet Taylor! chat it up with fellow BHs!

But would probably fall asleep during introductions... did I miss the crash?! oh just a dream

Any Boglehead residing within 100 easy miles of Broward/Dade who doesn't take advantage of this opportunity ... .!? Well, a bit nuts.
