Post by LadyGeek » Sun Nov 11, 2018 10:12 am

Today is the 100th anniversary of the ending of World War One, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, 1918.

To everyone who served in the military, a very big Thank You for your service.

Thank you to those that served and those currently serving and putting themselves in harm’s way as a part of that service.

As a boy and as a young man, I do remember World War I veterans. They were getting to be fewer and fewer and now at age 59 am seeing the same with the World War II veterans. I actually knew a lot of WWII veterans personally and it is hard to see that generation pass. I am eternally grateful to all those who served in the United States Armed Forces. Some gave all and all gave some. Thank you.

An interesting historical footnote....

There were actually more casualties on all sides on armistice day than there were on D-Day in WWII.

This is supposedly an audio recording of the moment the war ended.

For any history buffs, pictures of the letter and scroll that (British) families got from King George when they lost a loved one. My great grandfather was killed in France.

A YouTube channel - The Great War - has been covering the war week by week as it happened 100 years ago. It's been great. The host is a history buff with a background in theater.

Wow. Very eerie ... especially the bird tweets.

Thanks to all vets for their sacrifices ... past and present.
