April 30, 2019 for me. Age 61 (62 in July)

As a CPA, I will continue to work a bit in preparing taxes until Medicare is an option, and maybe bit beyond that for "fun money". I don't do a large number of returns and they're easy money compared to the variety of things I do now. Plus not a lot of golfing where I live during Feb - March.

Forgive the off-topic question... DW is planning to punch out early 2020. Would it be permissible to announce for her here on Bogleheads when the 2020 list shows up? (She doesn't have a login here.)
It’s taken me a lot of years, but I’ve come around to this: If you’re dumb, surround yourself with smart people. And if you’re smart, surround yourself with smart people who disagree with you.

The Retirement Roll Call uses the protocols set forth by Lady Victoria, our founding mother 8-)

Lady Victoria specifically addressed this question and issued the following pronouncement:
VictoriaF wrote:I don't record spouses' retirement dates and ages. One way to include spouses is to encourage them to become Bogleheads.
May I say this diplomatically - there is no way I would violate Victoria's protocols (and run the risk of having her come after me) :mrgreen:

Just reached a final agreement with the boss. January 15 is my last day. The day I turn 62.
On the 16th I'm going to call in "well".
David Jay is a musical Boglehead, music gets him going! Congratulations on your final agreement with the boss and your punch out date. We'll put it on the Roll Call.

Now we don't have to ask what you'll be up to in retirement. We saw you are organizing a West Michigan Bogleheads local chapter. Congratulations on your new job and best wishes for a successful local chapter.

In order to get it going, you need e-n-e-r-g-y, so your friends here on the Roll Call are providing you with some musical energy to get your local chapter going. Just turn your speakers up REAL LOUD to welcome :musical_note: David Jay's Michigan Bogleheads! :musical_note:

Good! Another CPA :D We kind of have a policy around the Bogleheads forum that all CPAs and tax-types are not allowed to retire unless they promise not to leave us - we all need lots of tax advice on this forum :wink: And here's an idea - take your extra "fun money" and head to Saratoga in August, why you might even bank some extra :moneybag

Agreed! At the top right corner of my retirement planning spreadsheet, I have 2(!) countdowns going;

(K2= date and time my retirement starts)
By calendar days
=INT(K2-NOW())&" Days "&HOUR(MOD(K2-NOW(),1))&" Hour "&MINUTE(MOD(K2-NOW(),1))&" Minutes"

By working days
=NETWORKDAYS(TODAY(),K2, DATEVALUE({"11/22/2018","11/23/2018","12/24/2018","12/25/2018","12/31/2018","1/1/2018"}))

Count me in as another 62 year old member of the Jan 15 club!

Many thanks to the Bogleheads who helped me clarify my thinking and validate that I really can do this - those who responded directly to my questions and the many more who posted invaluable resources here for me to learn from. I am in your debt. (Hopefully, nobody else's!)

Dear lacseul,
Welcome to this Awesome Retirement Class!

Wow, 50 years as a pilot - you've probably been up in the air longer than you've been on the ground :mrgreen: Time to grab some boots and tromp around mother earth, or do you have other plans? Please let us know how the final flight feels :happy

Nice post Cyclist! We certainly understand your gratitude for this wonderful forum helping you navigate your road to retirement :beer

You're on this fabulous Roll Call - only 5 more weeks to go!

So, what are your plans? Oh dear, please don't tell us you're planning to go from Alaska to Argentina on top of a thin piece of metal 4 feet high weighing one pound, with 2 narrow wheels with lots of thin spokes, no steering wheel (only a bar with thin foam handles), gears with little wires that only go forward with no reverse, plastic pedals, a tiny mirror, a saddle seat as soft as a rock, and no holder for your Starbucks mug :P

June for me. My wife turns 65 that month (I'll be 67). I recently told my boss I'd either retire now or they could let me cut back to 4 days a week, in which case I'd stay until June. My wife is a retired teacher (she has a pension). We'll be applying for my wife's SS in the next few months and I'll get just a spousal benefit until I turn 70 and start my own SS. Using the MaximizeMySocialSecurity website, we get an estimate that we'll only be losing about $40,000 over the next 20 years by starting my wife's SS early and in the 5 years between her 65th birthday and her 70th year, we'll be getting $130,000 from SS. I'm not sure what I'll do yet, but I'm looking forward to less stress.

Best of luck and best wishes to all my fellow near retirees and those who have come before and those who'll be following us!

Last day at my job beginning at the end of May to mid June timeframe. I'll officially be off the books by the end of August. Very much looking forward to "the day" and will be doing #3, just fading away. I work at a remote location from my headquarters so fading away won't be that tough.

Self quoting here :wink:

Still on track, and I’m very pleased with how quickly time is going by. 5.5 more months to go. Submitting my retirement paperwork next week, headquarters has approved my departure plan, including extended vacation time at the end. Very grateful and pleasantly surprised at their approval and support.

I'll be stopping work in 10 days, I am 59 years old and getting stoked!

Will be rolling my pension and 401k to Vanguard where I already hold a small Roth and a taxable brokerage of modest proportions.

Welcome to the Bogleheads MarkDK, and congratulations on your retirement and "getting stoked"!

According to Google, "getting stoked" is "to be completely and intensely enthusiastic, exhilarated, or excited about something. Being stoked is the epitome of all being. When one is stoked, there is no limit to what one can do."

You must have some awesome adventures planned for your retirement 8-)

Looks like your R-date is Dec. 19, 2018, so I moved your post to our Roll Call for the Retirement Class of 2018 :happy
