Arizona Chapter

Post by mabromovitz »

Hello All,

I am interested in starting up the Arizona Chapter again. Michael LeBoeuf, one of the authors of The Bogleheads' Guide to Investing, said he would also have an interest in joining if enough people are interested. He would be a great resource and I think this group could really excel. Any interested Bogleheads out there? If so, I'll put something together so we can all meet.

Best,
Mark

I'm interested, and I will travel from Payson. Consider having meetings in multiple locations to match the better seasons, to attract those who aren't as interested in traveling. I think there are two BHs in Prescott, or maybe one of those was in Flagstaff, and someone else once mentioned Green Valley, south of Tucson. Anyone who is only lurking here is also welcome at any meeting.

Prescott, AZ.
Will drive to Scottsdale, upper Scottsdale, etc.
Or, come up to Prescott where it is cooler and picturesque.

We all learn the secret 3-fund fist-bump.

But no, on a serious note, I have no clue. Would just hope for some good conversation and mutual learning from similar people.

Somewhere in Greater Phoenix is the logical place to hold chapter meetings. The population of AZ is 7 million and 4.7 million live in Greater Phoenix.

As for how meetings can be conducted, that's for the group to decide if/when we get started. Here are some suggestions:

Looks like we have sufficient interest to put a group together. I'll set something up in Phoenix for May and will get back with everyone shortly.

Thanks,

Hello All,

To get things started for the Arizona Chapter, I am putting together an informal gathering for Bogleheads at the Prado Lounge at the Montelucia Resort in Phoenix on May 17th at 5:30pm. I will order us some appetizers and it will be a casual setting for all of us to get introduced to one another. Michael LeBoeuf, local resident and author of The Bogelheads' Guide to Investing, will be attending as well.

However, I need to know how many of you are interested in attending so that I may plan accordingly. Please respond to this thread so that I know we have sufficient interest to get things started.

Thanks,
Mark

Hello All,

Looking forward to our meeting tomorrow! For those of you not familiar with the Montelucia resort, where we are meeting tomorrow evening at the Prado Lounge, there is valet parking and self parking options. Valet parking has a $10 fee associated with it. However, self parking is free and located on the east side of the property. If you have trouble finding it, just ask valet to show you where to self park.

I will be providing free appetizers tomorrow evening for the group. Once again, this will be an informal gathering and should be a great opportunity for you to discuss questions, ideas, and thoughts for future meetings so that we may continue to further our investment education.

Thanks,
Mark

Thank you to all that attended our initial Bogleheads meeting last night! It was a great success with lots of interesting people and conversation. A big THANK YOU to Michael LeBoeuf for helping out and sharing his great stories and investment advice. I look forward to our next get together, which will probably be in September sometime. I'll keep you posted.

Darn, I haven’t been on the forum in a while so I missed it. Is there an email list we can get on or just keep checking the forum to learn about future meeting dates?

Our chapter is off to a great start. I was very favorably impressed by everyone who attended. Thank you, Mark for getting the ball rolling on something I believe will be very special. If any of you who attended last week's meeting want to meet for coffee or lunch (dutch treat) in the Scottsdale area, drop me a PM and we will make it happen. My experience has been that Boglehead friends are the best.
