HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR. BOGLE: Let's Get The Party Started One Day Early

Post by Kathleen Ryan » Sun May 07, 2017 2:25 pm

Dear All,

Mr. Bogle's (Jack's) Birthday is tomorrow, May 8. I thought we could get the party started one day early so we won't miss it, while many of us are at work.

Please feel free to let him know how much you appreciate and care about him, by sharing your birthday wishes for him.

Happy, Happy Birthday Mr. Bogle,

Just to let you know we're all thinking of you, and hope you have a wonderful day with family and friends, and that all your birthday wishes come true. You have given me the gift of knowledge, which has been very empowering for me, with regards to investing prudently in the stock market. As we all know it can be a very scary place without the proper insights. Like I tell my friends, "The stock market is a rollercoaster, so strap yourself in for the wild ride." I also know that being invested in low-cost index funds, I don't have to make the belt, quite as tight. 8-)

You have enriched my life for the past seventeen years, first by meeting you in person, and then getting to converse in length with you. You are my friend and mentor, and it is always a thrill to see you on tv, as the voice of calm and reason through the years.

Thank you also to Taylor, who let Mr. Bogle know how much I regretted having to miss the first reunion which he and his beautiful wife, Pat, hosted in their home, all those years ago. Taylor refers to his home as, "The house that Jack built." I'm sure many of us share this wonderful sentiment also.
Best wishes, | Kathleen

Happy Birthday Mr. Bogle and thank you for your complete honesty about investing in the stock market. It`s simply astounding the number of people you`ve helped in investing over the years. I remember always when you said that your boss Walter Morgan told you that "nobody knows nutt`in. " How true that was and continues to be so today.

Happy Birthday Mr. Bogle!

Warren Buffett certainly gave you some nice compliments!

He said you were a hero to him. You are our hero also. :D
If a statue is ever erected to honor the person who has done the most for American investors, the hands-down choice should be Jack Bogle. For decades, Jack has urged investors to invest in ultra-low-cost index funds. In his crusade, he amassed only a tiny percentage of the wealth that has typically flowed to managers who have promised their investors large rewards while delivering them nothing - or, as in our bet, less than nothing - of added value.

In his early years, Jack was frequently mocked by the investment-management industry. Today, however, he has the satisfaction of knowing that he helped millions of investors realize far better returns on their savings than they otherwise would have earned. He is a hero to them and to me.
(From Buffett's 2016 Berkshire Hathaway Annual Report)

Jack Bogle,
You're the best! If not for you, the world of consumer investing would still be dominated by the powers of marketing and advertising. The worst risks of investing wouldn't be beta and the pursuit of the perfect plan, but the lack of information, transparency and simple index-based investment products. You've done more to help people here and around the rest of the planet than I think people have still yet to come to fully appreciate, but they will! Thank you so much, and happy birthday!!

For years, having never heard of Jack Bogle, I had been following some good general advice I'd heard about investing in low-cost index funds. It worked. Come November of 2015, I was preparing for retirement and looking for recommendations for a retirement calculator and general confirmation that I was close to my goal. I found Bogleheads where I found the confirmation I sought and of course so much more.

What it took me a while to realize is that the creator of those low-cost index funds that were instrumental to reaching my goal is none other than the honorable Mr. Bogle.

My sincerest thanks, Mr. Bogle, and the very happiest of birthdays to you!

Happy Birthday, Jack.

Thanks for all you've done for millions and millions of investors who are so much richer because you shared Vanguard's success with your investors, rather than pocketing the billions that could have been yours.

You're a true American hero and I'm so very proud to call you my friend and mentor. Any small success I've had with all of the Bogleheads books, forums and Conferences can be directly attributed to you.

Here's to many, many more birthdays, Jack. I can't imagine a world without you.

See you in October.

Best regards,

Mel

From the dedication of our Bogleheads' Guide to Investing:

"To John C. Bogle, founder of The Vanguard Group

A man whom we knew from afar for many years but have since come to know and cherish as a friend. While some mutual fund founders chose to make billions, he chose to make a difference."

And make a difference he has.
