HAPPY 21ST HEARTDAY, JACK BOGLE

Post by Mel Lindauer »

Hello Everyone:

Just wanted to let everyone know that today is the 21st anniversary of Jack's heart transplant. He met earlier today with the Doctors who performed the transplant.

Here's a story about that reunion.

I guess he is the oldest and/or longest surviving transplant patient. Toughness to stay the course
The linked Philly article gives a cause of the heart problem,I believe the same thing that is being blamed for the in pool death about a year ago as of Christmas season of a Dartmouth College Swimmer who might have planned to work in the financial industry or perhaps even at Vanguard

The man just keeps on ticking.

He certainly has justified why he deserved a second chance!

Good for you, Mr Bogle.

Happy 21st Heartday Jack! You'll easily make it to see 89 and hopefully many more!

Btw, I let out a hearty chuckle at this...
"In the abstract, health care is a right," Bogle said. He noted that his insurance bill after his transplant topped $780,000 but that with excellent health-care coverage through Vanguard, his portion was $3.46.

"I screamed at Eve, my wife, 'Quick, get my checkbook so I can pay this before they change their minds!' " he said with a laugh.
I would have done the same! Thank you for everything you have done for us all!

Hi Jack:

Now that you're "officially" 21, that means you'll be able to enjoy a glass of wine or other alcoholic beverage of your choice at our upcoming 2017 Bogleheads Conference. :D :beer

I echo the thanks to the generous individual or family who donated the heart. Absent their generosity, things might have been very different for many people.

Since the heart was 30 years old when Jack received it, he is really 51, not 21. Ha Ha. Just kidding. I know what you meant! :D

On a serious note, let us not forget that someone died so Jack could live. Organ donation works.

"Vanguard founder Bogle and surgeons gather for a heart-transplant reunion"

Bogleheads:

Erin Arvedlund, staff writer for the Philadelphia News, has written this wonderful birthday story about John Bogle and his heart transplant 21 years ago:

Vanguard founder Bogle and surgeons gather for a heart-transplant reunion

Read it and cheer.

Best wishes.

Great read....appreciation after the fact (21 years, in fact) shows the true face of a man. My best wishes for this man.

Great tribute to a GREAT man....Thanks Taylor for sharing.

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it: We need more people like Jack in the investing business.

Ethics is sorely lacking today in the advisory business.

I TRUST Jack; can't say that about many others in the money management business.

Wishing you, Jack, many more celebrations.

Hi Jack,

Here's wishing you a belated happy heart day from Elke and me. While the story of the new heart adding years to your life is miraculous, what I find more astounding is that you accomplished all that you did between ages 31 and 66 with a bad heart and lived to tell about it. You are amazing! :sharebeer

Just curious shouldn't the "Happy" greetings be directed to the team of doctors who did the work? Glad to hear Mr. Bogle doing well, but odd to give him congrats on something he didn't do other then take his meds and continue to live. :D

Good luck.
