Re: livesoft is almost at 50,000 posts...
This is what I like about livesoft:
He is sweet and humble by nature and knows his modesty:
He is sweet and humble by nature and knows his modesty:
Me caustic? No way, no how.
Thanks for this thread, so that I can add to my post count.
He is a kind and compassionate family man who dotes on his loving wife (who still puts up with him) and nurtures his children into fine upstanding citizens:You may also be interested in where you stand on the Effective Average Adjusted Livesoft Income tax rate.
FWIW, my careless kids are also on my car insurance. My oldest drives a car I own in another state with probably an expired registration and an illegal driver's license.
We are minimalists. For instance, our beds are never made except two days a month when the maids come. . . . When I cook, there is really nothing to clean up. I cannot say the same for my spouse who leaves the unused ingredients spread out all over the place.
His advice to a Boglehead to wanted to buy an iPhone - throw in the kids:In more than two decades of living here, we have not paid for pest control. I actually like spiders . . . besides, a germy house is better for one's immune system and makes one healthier.
1. Ask for one for Christmas from your kids.
2. Have your kids put your phone on their family plan.
His tip to new parents on his favorite and most challenging years of parenthood:One day I will ask my kids for a new phone for Christmas and the family plan will go to their address, so I won't have any phone bills anymore.
His remedy on getting out of credit card debt:I will say that my kids were fun and easy to deal with from ages 0 to 23 years. It is after that when they had their own jobs and careers that I noticed they became irresponsible and difficult to deal with.
(And when asked to explain this he replied)
Oh, that's easy. Before my kids were age 23, I got a lot more sex than they did. After they were 23 it is the other way around.
Livesoft is the quintessential index-fund-stay-the-course-no-market-timing Boglehead:I'd ask my daughter to use her summer earnings to help pay back some education money to help me pay off my credit card debt.
Yes, I do market timing. Yes, I am rich.
I rather enjoy big drops because I get to rebalance and make mo' big money without working up even a single bead of sweat.
He has a cozy relationship with the IRS:I bought more bond fund shares today, too. I could have bought a couple days ago, but I felt the price was too high, so I market timed it.
I don't fear the IRS at all. They are really nice people.
He understands the travail the poor Edward Jones advisers go through to make their house calls and he treats them with the utmost neighborly kindness, inviting them in for coffee and cake:My cover letter (to the IRS) was something like: "Dear IRS, I forgot to file this form back in 2001, so here it is now. Thanks."
Of course, we must confess that livesoft probably contributed to one of the most historical locks by LadyGeek on this forum when he offered his sage advice on the best nose hair trimmers:A new EJ sales rep knocked on my door, so I invited him in. I asked him how long he had been with EJ and whether it was a good gig. I asked him what he did before and what his spouse did. Then I explained to him how EJ was ripping everybody off and if he put any of his spouse's retirement money in EJ that they would probably never be able to retire. I explained to him all about fees and expenses and how EJ was way way way overpriced. In fact, I told him that EJ was destroying the retirement dreams of many many people and that I would do anything to put EJ out of business. He left my house as white as a ghost.
But livesoft should never have been banned from the Sunshine State by the Tourism Council for this wise suggestion on useful repellents for those who travel to Florida:I think you are supposed to be plucking these hairs whenever you are out in the car and stopped at a stop light. At least that's what I see all the time. . . . I also hear that rubbing cocaine powder on nose hairs works (but this is NOT medical advice!)
He has never divulged how much he earned from coining this little ditty about financial advisers:Buy some alligator repellent, fire ant repellent, python repellent, brown recluse repellent, rattlesnake repellent, cottonmouth repellent, mosquito repellent, etc. Oh, you mentioned beaches, so add shark repellent, jellyfish repellent, too. Presumably you already have tick repellent coming from CT. Get your shots for Dengue fever, St. Louis encephalitis, West Nile virus, Chikungunya virus. Don't forget about malaria and some of those other diseases, too.
He gave unique advice to a Boglehead as to which dinnerware to buy to impress dinner guests:We turn your money and our experience into our money and your experience.
Livesoft nurtures his body with biochemicals and oatmeal cooked in a microwave with Dr. Pepper, which gives him awesome abs:Maybe you can buy something at an estate sale or garage sale? Your efforts to buy this stuff should make for interesting dinner table conversation. Try to find something from a convicted killer to make it more interesting. . . . There you go. Buy both sets from your mom and grandma. Have either one killed someone? Nevermind, just buying the dishes from them would make a good story.
I choose non-organic fresh spinach and non-organic roma tomatoes because they are cheaper. I'm a biochemist by decades of training, so I don't go for the organic hype. I love biological chemicals.
He is kind to all creatures great and small = his advice on trapping squirrels:I want to report that oatmeal has given me awesome abs . . . that I am just as smart, rich, strong, handsome, and modest as jazztonight.
Actually, I do believe livesoft's words of wisdom reveal a "soft" inner soul:Set out your trap just before you go on vacation.
Thank you livesoft for your many posts of experience, education, explanation, wisdom and humor. But it's the internet, so live and let live as long as you do it in a soft way.

Wow, that was a lot of work. Thanks!
I'd hate to see your list of what you don't like, but it's probably longer and would take a lot more work, so maybe I'm safe that it won't be posted.

my first exposure to Livesoft was one of his snarky, annoying and destined-to-be-DOB'd-by-the-moderator posts.

I guess this finally answers a question I posted a while back. What do Bogleheads do when they retire? Besides having to purchase an inordinate amount of replacement keyboards, Livesoft's expenses are probably very well contained. As of this post I believe the current post count is 50,207. Livesoft and prosper.

To put this into context, SINCE his 50,000th post, he is already approaching my own TOTAL post count during the entire time I've been hanging around this site - 5 years or so.TheTimeLord wrote:As of this post I believe the current post count is 50,207.

Oh Miriam, those were absolute jewels, my neighbor came knocking at the door wondering why I was laughing so loud (no, she did not, but that was close).Miriam2 wrote:This is what I like about livesoft

The forum is full of more livesoft jewels - but there aren't enough hours in the day to pull them up and post themsiamond wrote:Oh Miriam, those were absolute jewels, my neighbor came knocking at the door wondering why I was laughing so loud (no, she did not, but that was close).

At the current rate, when will livesoft hit 500,000 posts?

Wow this thread is almost two years old- looks like livesoft will be at the 70,000 mark soon.
Wouldn’t it be nice if the S&P 500 kept going up in the same way...?

It's less impressive when you consider livesoft earns 5x the posts by posting with the Bogleheads Sapphire Reserve card.
Re: livesoft is almost at 50,000 posts...
Look forward to the next 70,000 posts by the one and only Livesoft.

Thanks everybody, but it seems to me that it might take a few months to reach the actual milestone. OTOH, I had forgotten about Miriam2's little compendium of revealing highlights, so special thanks to her again!
Thanks for putting up with me and let's get back to business.

80,000 posts later and those socks are still sitting on the dining room table I bet.

No room on the table anymore, so socks get tossed on the dining room rug where they remain until use.
