Happy Birthday Mel!

Wishing many many more for you!

I, along with all everyone else here, appreciates all your "behind the scenes" work.

I can't imagine all the hours you put in to make this forum a success...and what a success it is!

To say "Thank You" just doesn't seem adequate, but, "Thank You" to you and everyone else involved in
making the "wheels go 'round" here.

There is NO better place for independent, no conflict of the interest advice anywhere.

My sincerest thanks to ALL the forum members and contributors.

Have a great day all you BH'ers!

Don

This thread is now in the Local Chapters and Bogleheads Community forum (Boglehead).

Sorry, I didn't see Rick Ferri's thread until now. I had bumped last year's thread by mistake: Happy Birthday to Mel [Lindauer], so I merged this year's birthday wishes into here.

I know I add nothing new to this conversation. Just know that The Bogleheads Guide to Investing brought both clarity and conviction to my retirement savings after floundering for almost 25 years. You didn't save my life, but you (and yes, your wonderful co-authors) definitely saved my retirement. I can't wait to meet you all in September!

Thanks for the kind words, Rick. Coming from you, they're especially meaningful. And thank you for all you contributions to the Bogleheads Community.

Normally in all endeavors I've been involved in, I worked hard to be #1 and have usually achieved my goals. However, in this Bogleheads endeavor, I'm perfectly content to remain #2 behind a super great #1, Taylor Larimore. Jack Bogle calls Taylor "The King of the Bogleheads" and me "The Prince of the Bogleheads". This Prince has no ambition to be King. Long live the King, my very good friend, Taylor Larimore.

Happy Birthday, Mel! Thank you so much for the I-Bond recommendations. I would never have bought them back then without your help and I certainly am enjoying those interest rates in this lower-rate environment.

Sorry Mel, I did not notice your question till now.
In 3.5 years, I have given away over 11,000 paperbacks and iBooks, and sold about 700 through Amazon. As you probably know that most books never sell more than 100 copies because authors don't know the business end of marketing. Still, it was never our intention to make any money anyway.
My 2nd book, Fighting Powerful Interests, is just for k-12 educators (or their spouses who want to help) and that has been free forever as a pdf. I want my colleagues to realize that the 403(b) annuities with public school districts are to be avoided.

That's an important lesson, aimed at folks (teachers) who definitely need a financial education. Keep up the good work, Steve.
