Chicago meeting [- March 27 in Lincoln Park]

Post by bhead33 » Wed Feb 03, 2016 1:26 pm

Any other meetups planned for Chicago ? The yahoo group in the sticky does not exist. No recent threads turn up in search. Would love to get together with other local bogleheads sometime.

I am attempting to move to the Chicago area here soon (after finding a job) and would be interested in this as well.

I would probably be interested. I live and work in the Western Suburbs.

I'm all for getting a meeting together.

What are good places? What are good times?

I'd prefer the Western Suburbs but I can be somewhat flexible depending on where people live.

Are weekends better, or after work hours Monday-Thursday?

Interested as well. Preference would be on a weekend as I work in Northern Burbs and would have trouble making to city during week.

Weekend would be great - maybe Saturday morning/afternoon. I am in the city and it looks like most other people interested also are/can manage to make it there.

Does anyone have a place they could recommend ? Maybe we can get a private room in a food establishment for a small outlay per person ?

We've had 2 separate attempts at establishing an ongoing chapter. Both petered out after several meetings. There are certainly plenty of bogleheads in Chicago, but it's such a large place that working out something that will suit everyone has failed. The ultimate answer is probably to have one group downtown and a two or three in the suburbs (northern, western, far south?). Until then, I bet anyone who announces a place and time will get several attendees. It's probably best not to expect attendees to pay for the space, we have previously met in a restaurant, on the rooftop deck of a member's office, in a apartment building party room, at the Chicago Cultural Center, and even once in my condo.

if we do in a restaurant, then wont there be an expected cost per person ? I can try to come up with a place.

All right! I have a meeting space confirmed for March 27 from 10AM - 12 PM at Next Door in Lincoln Park, Chicago. There is no cost to attend and there is a cafe inside the meeting place so anyone can quickly and easily purchase a beverage/snack. There are also multiple restaurants in the area so if desired, after the meeting, you can go and get something to eat.

March 27, 10AM-12 PM

Next Door
659 W Diversey
Chicago 60614
(773) 472 3667

Please confirm here if you can come, we can accommodate up to 10 people.

We are up to 4 people who are attending. Please keep pm'ing me or feel free to reply here to let me know if you are coming. No pressure, i am sure we can accommodate any overflow.

Alex - Can we re-title this thread to say that there *will* be a Chicago meetup on March 27 ?

thanks.

Too far for me - especially if you plan to meet on Easter.

It went well other than only one person who came, but that is my fault, I did not realize it was Easter when I set it up.

We discussed Asset Allocation, health care premiums, investing/retirement goals, Long term care viability etc.

It was a great location and I would recommend it for future meetups when there is more interest.

Yes!

My requests: Not a holiday, and somewhere with parking or walking distance from Union Station.

If with enough interest, we can meet for a later lunch at a Greek town restaurant, this way we don't have to take up a table during their lunch hour and talk.
Or any suggestions.

Hi,

I would be up for meeting and am more than willing to help plan an event as well. I am in Arlington Heights but have easy access to the Metra. If there is enough interest from the N/NW Suburbs, we could meet locally. Otherwise, we can look downtown. What I think might be easy is to meet on the ground floor of the Olgilvie train station in the food court. We'd have access food/drinks and plenty of space.

If you're interested, please respond to the post. At this point, let's look at Mid-February to get passed the holidays/start of the year rush.

OK, Chicago Bogleheads, I have some good news. elihu303 has stepped up and agreed to become the new Local Chapter Coordinator.

He's established a new email address for the group - bogleheadschicago@gmail.com

I'm having his contact info added to the Local Chapters Map.

Good luck to the Chicago Bogleheads. Hopefully your group will be successful.

Best regards,

Mel

Hi Everyone,

I've started a new master thread for our Chicago group, which can be found at the post below. If you've expressed interest in meeting up, please use the gmail address found on the new link to join the list. Also, we'll use the new link as our group collective, as this thread is very dated.
