Any Albany, NY Bogleheads out there?
Any Albany, NY Bogleheads out there?
I would really like to meet up with Bogleheads in Albany... I know you're out there! Even informal meetings would be great. Possibly a book-club type format? We can decide on a list of books and periodically meet at a local library, Panera, etc. to discuss?

Looks like there's enough interest to get an Albany-area Local Chapter started. All we need is for one of you to agree to be the Local Chapter Coordinator and I'll add your group and contact info on the Local Chapters Map so others can find you.
The Coordinator doesn't have to be a financial guru. Rather, that person simply communicates with the other members regarding meeting dates, times, locations and agendas.
If you're interested, contact me via PM and we'll get the Chapter established.
Good luck and best regards.
Mel

OK, Albany Bogleheads. evarrr stepped up and agreed to be the Local Chapter coordinator, so you now have an official Bogleheads Local Chapter. I'll be adding your group to the Local Chapters Map so others can find and contact you.
The email address for the group is AlbanyBogleheads@gmail.com.
You can use this thread and sub-forum to communicate with each other about meeting locations, times, dates, agendas, etc.
Congrats to our newest Local Chapter. Good luck!
Best regards,
Mel

Albany Bogleheads,
If you are interested in a meet-up, please email AlbanyBogleheads@gmail.com so I can create a contact list for communications.
Does anyone have suggestions for meeting places (Empire State Plaza, coffee shops, etc.)? Best meeting times (weekday evenings vs. weekends)? After I get a general idea I can send out a survey via email to finalize a time and location for the first meeting.
Also, does anyone have any preferences regarding what to accomplish during meetings? Do you want to discuss specific topics or finance-related current events? Choose and discuss investment/personal finance books? Ideas welcome.

Saturday mornings would be great for me. Centrally located coffee shop (e.g., Panera in Latham Farms just off 87) or Professor Java's Coffee Sanctuary in Colonie (also near 87) or maybe the Colonie public library also near 87 (but we would need a member eligible to reserve rooms there, which unfortunately, I am not, since I don't live in a county belonging to that library network.)

Re: Any Albany, NY Bogleheads out there?
I just saw this. I believe I looked for a local BH group and saw nothing not too long ago. Well, maybe it was last year.
Anyhow, I will join the mailing list and try to participate. Panara and Prof. Java's are pretty convenient for me, moreso than downtown Albany.
Book-swapping sounds good, and very Bogle-Headish. Saturday mornings are not the best time for me, as I have an oil-burning garage sale habit. Well, maybe during the winter months.
Anyhow, glad to see this is happening!
