2015 Bogleheads Conference Message from Jack Bogle
To my wonderful Bogleheads,
Our fourteenth annual gathering was truly heartwarming and informative--a triumph that gave me much joy and inspiration. Thank you all for coming, for being so attentive, for taking such good care of each other, for enjoying those two days of intensive contemplation, and--of course--for that magnificent walking stick, an echo of Ben Franklin, the consummate entrepreneur and citizen of Philadelphia and the United States of America.
I've reviewed my 55-slide (ouch!) presentation, and am posting it on my e-blog--www.johncbogle.com--momentarily.
While it's essentially unchanged from what you saw at our meeting, I did change the order in a few spots, and revised several numbers to conform with other things that I've written (notably the expected returns presented on slides #47 and #50. In the interests of continuity and clarity, I've also added tag lines at the base of each slide to set what's coming up next.
Enjoy seeing this presentation again! And enjoy with me another few moments of the memories of the bright sun in which we basked together--intellectually, jointly, and in yet another Philadelphia autumn.
Looking forward, eagerly and hopefully, to Bogleheads XV. Best, always,
Jack

Re: 2015 Bogleheads Conference Message from Jack Bogle
Thank you, Jack, for honoring us with your presence once again at the 2015 Bogleheads Conference. Thank you, too, for all you've done (and continue to do) to make sure that investors get their fair share of the market's return.
Glad to hear that you liked the walking stick. Hopefully you'll use it in good health, remembering as you use it that you can lean on your Bogleheads and we'll support you. Since it doesn't have a handle, it shouldn't be mistaken for a cane.
Looking forward to seeing you next September at the 2016 Bogleheads Conference. In the meantime, be well.
Best regards,
Mel

Even though I wasn't able to make the "reunion", I have to say a hearty Thank You to you for all you have done for the investor.
Your honest approach to investment help for individuals is unsurpassed.
I will be retiring next year and I hope to make the reunion, meet you, and visit the VG campus.

Hi Mr. Bogle,
I'm sorry I missed this reunion and listening to your presentation, and seeing you again. Hopefully if our resident
videographers had a chance to record this, I will be able to see you again, and listen to your presentation.
You can be sure, I'm always watching for you when you appear on TV explaining the finer nuances of the stock market, and lend
a calming voice, to all the noise that so many are used to hearing. I also try to find as many articles about your speeches
and interviews, and post them at our Facebook Bogleheads site, along with my co-administrators there. Our mission is to reach
as many people as possible, to spread your philosophy of investing through well diversified, low cost, index funds to capture
what the market has to offer.
Again, thank you so much for taking the time to post about the 14th Annual Bogleheads Reunion. I know as in the past, a
wonderful time was had by all who were fortunate enough to attend. I will be reading what you posted at your site soon.
With best wishes to you always,
Kathleen Ryan

Ditto to all the above, Jack. You almost single-handedly allowed us "little guys" to get a fair deal in the rough-and-tumble stock market and save enough to (hopefully) retire in relative comfort. Thank you.
Re: 2015 Bogleheads Conference Message from Jack Bogle
Ditto to all that was said by the other posters, and... thank you for posting this great presentation, I have been eagerly checking your Web site every few hours since the conference!

Hello Mr. Bogle (Jack),
Thank you for all you do. Every year it is a delight and an honor to be able to attend the Bogleheads Conference and hear your calm words of wisdom. The mantra never gets old, rather it reinforces things when the 'noise' could make me falter! Like Kathleen, I'm constantly on the look out for you on TV so I can spread the words to my friends and family to watch, listen and learn.
Never did I think that 15 years ago in Miami at the Money Show and in Taylor Larimore's condo, when I first met you, that I would be so lucky to have been to every Conference except one. I consider myself fortunate to have caught on to the Boglehead philosophy of early saving and smart investing early on.
Thank you for all you do and all you continue to do!
I am already looking forward to Bogleheads 2016!
Gail

Thanks for posting your slide presentation. Fantastic! Having seen your videos and interviews through the years I could nearly hear your baritone intonation.

Thanks for the link to the slide show. Good presentation - except maybe for the happy news of a 4.5% projected return for a 50 / 50 portfolio before inflation, fees, taxes and investor behavior over the next 10 years. But, I guess you have to call them as you see them. And it could be worse.Barry Barnitz wrote:Hi:

Re: 2015 Bogleheads Conference Message from Jack Bogle
I have such a great sense of gratitude to you.
I can still recall in 1970's, when as a teen, I decided to invest my money. My parents had only bonds and when I told my mother I wanted to put money in Shell Oil ( my father had died at an early age ). She told to go ahead and figure it out. I called a broker and told him that I wanted to buy one share of Shell Oil. It was $85 ( different currency but I hope I recall the story correctly) and then he told me that I would have to pay $ 40 in fees. I was astounded. I wanted to know if there was a volume discount. This was high way robbery and instead I put my money in CD's. I still recall the 11% interest rates in the late 70's and early 80's with happiness.
I did not invest in stocks till 1990 or so when I became aware of low expense Vanguard funds.
My spouse was amazed that I hold Jack Bogle is such high regard until we attended our first conference this year. (There are no other people who I feel as grateful to (other than my direct family)). I do believe that you have created path to financial security and indepence for many millions of people and have made our lifes so much happier.
If your revolution of Vanguard' s index funds had not happened, we would be in real estate and would have to monitor renters in properties, we would have bought at great leverage ( actual with the mortgage rates so low, I do have a slight pang as to how much leverage we could have gotten). Worse though it would have been hard work with lots frustration and much energy spent.
Now we are on auto pilot.
It was great to see you at the meeting and if anything I admire you more seeing you in person and witnessing how gracious you are.

Mr. Bogle,
Like nearly everyone else here, you have forever changed my life for the better. Although someone may be able to determine how much money you have saved investors over the years, your total impact on this world is incalculable.
It was an honor to be the first person to request that you sign an ebook of yours on an iPad. Thank you for graciously obliging and for all you have done.
