Re: Seattle Area Chapter Meetings - Master Thread
My wife and I will attend, and hope others will join us.
A topic I'd suggest is the types of fixed income funds. We know about how aggregate bond funds like BND, AGG or SCHZ can smooth out fluctuations in our equity portfolio, but should we also invest in Treasury, Treasury TIPS or international bond funds? Another topic I'd be interested in is the pros and cons of tilting one's portfolio towards value investing (i.e. Vanguard VTV). We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.

This is Jennifer! Wanted to say thanks to everyone who attended today, I had a blast getting to nerd out about investing, social security, and more. It's so seldom I get to really talk about financial stuff with people face to face! Thank you thank you thank you! When's the next one?

I'm looking for a suggestion/recommendation for a third party administrator to draft a custom plan document to create a VRIP pooled account at Vanguard to roll in previous SEPs etc.
Does anyone have any experience with someone in seattle area? I'm in North Bend but can travel into Bellevue or Seattle.
Thanks,
Ryan

Re: Seattle Area Chapter Meetings - Master Thread
Are these meetings appropriate for new Boglehead members with a novice/intermediate understanding of financial matters? What has been discussed at previous meetings and how long do they last? I am interested and would be commuting from Gig Harbor, WA.delconte wrote:Here are the details for our next meeting.

Re: Seattle Area Chapter Meetings - Master Thread
I would love a meeting that met in Seattle instead of the Eastside. Any one else interested?
Re: Seattle Area Chapter Meetings - Master Thread
I'd be interested in meeting in downtown Seattle too. As a compromise, what about alternating between the Eastside and downtown?
Re: Seattle Area Chapter Meetings - Master Thread
Perhaps someone who lives in Seattle should start scheduling Seattle meetings? I would rather add a meeting than reduce the frequency of Eastside meetings. The Eastside meetings are already not that frequent and I am guessing many of the Eastside attendees won't make it to Seattle.
Re: Seattle Area Chapter Meetings - Master Thread
This doesn't sound unreasonable at all to me. The current meetings are pretty much quarterly, right? So if we had two or four Westside meetings a year, but made sure to offset them from the Eastside ones, I think it'd be fine.Beverage wrote:Perhaps someone who lives in Seattle should start scheduling Seattle meetings? Do most people like the idea of meeting at something like a cafe, as the current Eastside meetings are? To me these always seemed like the kind of thing that would be held at a meeting room in a public library. It looks like the "neighborhood" libraries (Capitol Hill, U-District, Queen Anne, etc) have free meeting rooms that can be reserved, but that the ones at the Central Library downtown are between $75 and $150 to reserve for a weekend date!
Picking a place close to downtown is almost certainly easiest for people using transit, and almost certainly worst for people driving in and looking or paying for parking. How would most people plan to come? I could do either.
Re: Seattle Area Chapter Meetings - Master Thread
Yes, I would love to see a Seattle-based meeting as well. The library meeting rooms - at some branches - have become a bit more restrictive of late in terms of frequency of use by the same group.
I like the idea of a coffee house such as Herkimer Coffee on Greenwood where there is decent street parking and long hours. Or Fresh Flours at 60th and Phinney. Group size is a factor.
Open to any venue, as long as parking is at least semi-adequate.

Re: Seattle Area Chapter Meetings - Master Thread
Meetings in Seattle would be great. I'm not sure I have a suggestion for a venue. Most anywhere downtown or north of downtown could work for me.
Most of my posts assume no behavioral errors.
