When you get to 2017, put me down for November 30, 2017. Remember this is only an estimate and actual mileage may vary.

If all goes to plan, Oct 1 will be my retirement date. Sure hope I haven't misplaced a decimal point somewhere in my spreadsheet.

I hit my "number" at some point in 2015 however I've decided to give it one more year so December 31, 2016 is my date. Congrats to all of those retiring I would love to hear what those retiring are hoping the first 5 years will be like. I'd also be interested to know how many are self funding their retirement with 401K and personal savings vs defined benefit plans. Anybody buying an annuity to build a "floor"?

Sign me up. My date is 1 April 2016 barring a huge drop in the stock market. I'm 54. My wife retires at the end of this year (she's 63). I decided to go another quarter - we thought this would be less scary than both of us jumping at the same time.

Hopes, Plans, and Achievements:
Plans:
1st order of business is: no big changes, no immediate plans. We need to get used to a new way of doing things.
I will be playing music and teaching (I should be able to accept more gigs/students than when I was working)
She still has a part-time bookkeeping gig (8 hours a week or so) for someone she likes working for
I plan to do a lot of work on the house and cars myself. I have some construction and mechanical experience, but not a lot of time right now.
We'll want to do some traveling to visit friends we've neglected in the past years.
Clean out all the clutter - sell, give away, throw away stuff! Both of us are excited about this.
Pay a lot more attention to health - nutrition, daily exercise. This kind of stuff seems to elude us when we are working long hours.

Hopes and Achievements:
All I can say is I hope this all works out. I consider it an achievement to have gotten to the point where we'd even consider retiring.

I'll officially join the Class of '16. After changing my date a couple of times, I reasoned that a public commitment might make it more likely to stick. April 6, 2016 will be my graduation date. 58 years old - 36 years with the same megacorp - first job out of college - regular job since I was 12. My wife retired this June and we relocated to a 55+ community in Florida. The "retiree envy" thing has gotten the best of me. Now I just have to convince myself to trust our plan. Any words of advice for a natural worrywart?

Public commitment in The Bogleheads Island is not a problem, but my recommendation is to keep your retirement date secret (at work), don't talk about it with co-workers until you have officially submitted your retirement letter [it is all about that credibility thing]. Heads up, some of your friends are going to be suspicious, some prospective retirees look younger, happier, energetic, arrive at work earlier, and become more productive, of course of this is about perception, but sometimes perception is reality. Good luck with your retirement plans and execution.

Did I tell you that retirement is awesome ?

Please put me down for a graduation date of July 2nd, on my 64th birthday (my wife's 63rd birthday, which only seems fair, since she graduated on our birthday in 2015).

In deference to a classroom theme:

If I retire before that date it will because of extra credit, in the form of either re-prioritizing life's balance, or an unexpected windfall (we can dream, can't we?).

The latest I will retire will be 12/31/16. This would be the result of detention, in the form of an unexpected setback, or an irrational fear of tax liability.

I've got a lot of things planned in the first year of retirement, and I'm looking forward to it!

I'm officially June 30.

I'm still getting over the shock of how much Medicare B and D premiums and surcharges are going to cost me! I should have retired years ago.

Victoria, thanks for keeping this Roll Call.

Onward and Upward,

Is it a leap of faith? {just kidding}

Welcome! Retirement, of course, is about full-time fooling around. {kidding, again}

You can say that again.

Today is February Fools' Day here at the beach.

So was yesterday.

To quote who was quoted to me as Fats Waller (but who knows), "Shoot me while I am still this happy!"

I am not at the beach, but I am having my share of Fools' Days, too! A couple days ago, I had lunch with fellow Camino Pilgrims from the D.C. area. Yesterday, Improv Comedy, Level-3. Tonight, Banff Film Festival, set-B. Tomorrow, Improv Comedy, Level-2 (I am taking Level-3 classes on Mondays and Level-2 on Wednesdays.) On Friday, a few of us are coming to our comedy club to see our instructor performing on stage. As so it goes...

Wayne & Marla - January 2016
Checked and double checked with VPA, everything looks good.

January 2016 is gone. Is it a typo?

I now have a firm retirement date: March 15. However, I also have a part-time job lined up starting in the summer, so I'm not sure whether this still counts as retirement. I will be taking a couple months off after March 15 to decompress and then starting the part-time job which should be much lower pressure than my current job.

Hi Beth,

I updated your date for 15 March. If you later decide that you are not retired, I will change it accordingly.

Good luck,
