Sounds good to us- we will be there.
Re: Master Thread for Metro Boston's Chapter (MA)
Wellesley is closer to me, so I would be up for that location.

Re: Master Thread for Metro Boston's Chapter (MA)
I would prefer Wellesley.
Re: Master Thread for Metro Boston's Chapter (MA)
I would attend either one, but, as a Boglehead, of course I'd prefer the cheaper one. On the other hand, Google Maps tells me that it's about a 30-minute drive from the Canton Public Library to the Wellesley Free Public Library, so I'd be willing to pay a little more to accommodate the South Shore folks this time around.

Yes, this is indeed the exact spirit of my question. Thanks for wording it better than I did.etarini wrote:I would attend either one, but, as a Boglehead, of course I'd prefer the cheaper one. Re: Master Thread for Metro Boston's Chapter (MA)
I can do either now that I look at a map and realize that it is only 15 min more to Canton.
Re: Master Thread for Metro Boston's Chapter (MA)
Based on the feedback received on this thread and by e-mail, Wellesley Free Library seems like the right compromise.
(just to be sure, I visited said library yesterday, it is modern and spacious, there is ample parking nearby, and the meeting room is perfect)

Re: Master Thread for Metro Boston's Chapter (MA)
And oh, we have the room from 1pm to 5pm, so let me suggest we schedule the meeting from 2pm to 5pm, I will be there around 1:30pm, and if some people want to show up early and socialize, by all means, please do.

BUMP!
Come on, guys and gals, I know we have 50+ Bogleheads around Metro-Boston, surely we can get a larger group of attendees? After the market drop of the past few days, I'm sure there are good discussions to be had!
See details for our Aug 29th meeting in the previous post.

Unfortunately I can't make it. Family event that day and the distance from the meetup is too great to attend.

Re: Master Thread for Metro Boston's Chapter (MA)
I suggest that we hold the next meeting in Lexington Cary Memorial (public) Library. Their meeting rooms are absolutely free. If everyone agrees, I could help reserve it. However, the meeting rooms are very popular and often require advance reservation of six months. One needs to file an application online. Let me know.
Re: Master Thread for Metro Boston's Chapter (MA)
Thanks, I will take good note of that. I'd rather try to find something a little closer to the folks north-west of Boston next time though (we have quite a few). Then, for the following meeting, Lexington sounds great - very central. Will work on it.gabriel1970 wrote:I suggest that we hold the next meeting in Lexington Cary Memorial (public) Library. Never been to Lexington (which is crazy given how much of a history buff I am). That sounds great.siamond wrote:Thanks, I will take good note of that. Re: Master Thread for Metro Boston's Chapter (MA)
Back to planning ahead... Here are the tentative dates for our coming meetings:
- Saturday December 5th, 2015 (location TBD, trying to be friendly to the north-west crew this time)
=> social lunch + one talk
- Saturday February 27th, 2016 (probably Lexington as was suggested a few posts ago)
=> two talks
UPDATE: Lexington doesn't work, they no longer accept groups which aren't located in the town.

Re: Master Thread for Metro Boston's Chapter (MA)
The location for our next Metro-Boston meeting (Dec 5th, 10am to 2pm) will be friendly to the North-West contingent this time, and I ended up selecting the Stoneham Public Library, and an Italian restaurant nearby.
If you didn't receive an e-mail from me with specifics, please contact me by Private Message.
And while I was at it, I also made a reservation to the Burlington Public Library on Feb 20th (1pm to 4pm) for our first 2016 meeting.

Could you tell me how to join the Metro Boston's chapter? I just signed on to become a Boglehead. Any tips would be greatly appreciated Thanks

In the case of being a Metro Boston Boglehead, it is everything. Just show up (but let siamond know that you are coming).

Re: Master Thread for Metro Boston's Chapter
After our video challenges last time (thanks again to Arun for saving the day), I did some more research to try to figure out the ideal location for our meetings... Which proved a tad challenging... Bottomline: I decided to slightly reschedule and relocate the February meeting.
We will meet at the Lincoln Public Library (3 Bedford Rd), on February the 13th, from 1pm to 4pm. Mark your calendars!
For more details, if you didn't get an e-mail from me, please contact me by Private Message.

Re: Master Thread for Metro Boston's Chapter
Hi folks.
I'd love to meet up with you all at some point in time. It would be fun to connect faces with names, since I have been communicating with many of you for years now.
A few major glitches....
I live 100 miles west of Boston, I am in NYC most weekends, I am in the Caribbean most of the winters and in France for a good chunk of the summers. And I love where I live the rest of the time. Thus it is like pulling teeth to get me anywhere away from home that involves more than a walk or bike ride if I don't need to go.
Nonetheless I am interested. What typically goes on at these meetings?
Thanks for indulging my curiosity, Some day I am bound to show up.
ps....I guess "Metro Boston" includes Boston/Cambridge, and they don't have a separate group??? I doubt if there is a group out my way.

Yes, it would be good to see you. Sounds that you've done pretty good for yourself, it would be cool to hear about your experience.protagonist wrote:I'd love to meet up with you all at some point in time. To answer your questions:
- We typically have a couple of presentations on diverse topics during meetings, open discussions on those topics, then social time (every other meeting, we go to lunch together)
- Metro-Boston is to be understood in a fairly loose manner, we have folks from Western MA, from RI, from NH, etc.
- There is no other group nearby, as far as I know. Although if you're going to NYC on a regular basis, there should be folks meeting out there (er, well, I just checked, and it seems that the local chapter is lacking a coordinator nowadays).
Why don't you send me a PM with your e-mail address, and I'll send you the presentations that were used in the past few meetings.

Re: Master Thread for Metro Boston's Chapter
I have just become a registered member, after possibly qualifying for a prize as the longest lurker (since Diehards with Morningstar). We two would like to attend the June 4th meeting, now that I have found a "local" Chapter.
Of course, I must mention our grateful thanks for the Bogelhead Forum, the wisdom learned from Taylor, the specific information from Mel which led us to the safety of I Bonds back when the rates were so good, thus a comfortable AA, and the Board Administrators who have helped structure and maintain the quality and civility of this site.
We look forward to joining you on June 4th.
