Victoria, thank you for starting and maintaining the "Roll Call" thread.
It is great reading about people who are retiring and entering another phase of their life.

My pleasure.
I added your age, but I don't record spouses' retirement dates and ages. One way to include spouses is to encourage them to become Bogleheads.

Jan. 1st 2015. Age 56. Strictly voluntary. Heading to vacay in Hawaii in a couple of days...yikes I hope this pending hurricane does not screw up my plans since I did not purchase cancelation Insurance. Maybe it will fizzle. Anyways enjoying so far. Wife has been retired for about 4 years. Now I have to figure out what to do with the next 30 years. Used to enjoy my job......not so much lately..... time to get out before burnout consumed me.

Shipmate soxster, welcome aboard! This is your first post. My recommendation is to stay spiritually and physically active during your retirement. Retirement life is good. Again, welcome aboard.
Plant closure. No to Cleveland relocation offer. Yes to 6 months severance, 20% short term transitionary stay bonus, 6 months paid Cobra. I will be free at last..free at last.

Retired 4/10/15 at age 59. How did I have time to work?
We have a bit of a complicated portfolio since I sold my share of company to the ESOP and took advantage of section 1042 non-recognition of gains. Have been sticking pins in my S&P voodoo doll since April, hoping for opportunities to buy inexpensive replacement properties (i.e. domestic equities). Sorry for any pain I may have caused
Anyone else out there been through the 1042 process? Curious to know how it has worked out for you.

Retirement is fantastic. I highly recommend it.

What amazes me is how many people who can easily afford to retire do not retire. Is it because they have a distorted notion of retirement? Don't have role models? Your testimony and those of other Bogleheads provide excellent counterexamples to the prevailing stereotypes about retirement.
Best wishes for your retirement pursuits and sharing with us your successes,

Today is my last day after over 32 years with the same large corp. I waited for Sep 1 to be my last day so that I could get medical ins through 9/30. Our retiree health benefits were taken away by our uber-famous multi-billionaire owner a few months ago.
But ACA costs aren't that bad.
I am 58. I plan to do some contracting (software developer) for a while. I just relocated, so still paying off lots of expenses.

The Retirement Class of 2014 has 59 members. The 2015 class already has 51 members. I am sure it can surpass the last-year class by the time the year is over.

How are recent retirees dealing with the corrections. Figure most would be down around 5% since retiring not counting distributions. Wondering what techniques they are using to adjust or are they still in a wait it out mode?

In my case, there is very little impact from the stock market decline. I hold a lot cash and fixed income to supplement my pensions and to pay for Roth conversions. As I am approaching the end of the first year in retirement, I am realizing that I have significantly under-spent my budget.

Definitely would expect the folks on pensions or SS to be much less effected. But the early retirees would likely be living virtually entirely off their portfolios.
