Chrome browser fonts

I have been trying out the Chrome browser and so far so good but I noticed
the bogleheads.org is not as readable as when using Internet Explorer.
Referring to just the bogleheads.org website. When you click through
to the actual forum and thread text I think it is the same.

With the same size font that I would use in IE in Chrome the font
is thin and hard to read. Going up 1 size with the mouse wheel
the font becomes too thick and blockey.

Any idea why that is?

I take that back. Overall fonts seem worse in Chrome even at other websites. So IE
has been having poor performance for me hence the reason to try out Chrome - seems
quite a bit faster but the fonts don't seem as good.

Since you are using IE I presume you're running Windows. Which version? Which browser versions are you comparing?

I'm running Windows 7, using Chrome 17 (beta) as my day-to-day broswer and just tried IE 9 on bogleheads.org. I don't notice any significant differences in the fonts between either browser.

I use chrome at home and IE at work and haven't noticed any differences.

There are a lot of things to think about before deciding it's the website. Look at the total path: Internet --> operating system --> browser --> font rendering --> video card --> monitor --> eyeglasses --> eye perception.

We need to set the "gold standard" and eliminate the variables. To start, let's be sure we are comparing apples-to-apples (Mac? ). Take a look at a test pattern: LCD monitor test images. Walk through the patterns - the Subpixel layout - Lagom LCD test is probably a good place to look for font readability.

I don't have an Apple, but both MS Windows and Linux variants can do all of the above adjustments.

It is not the website - I see the same issues on other websites.

I did notice you can change the default font in chrome - possibly that
might help.

After spending a very frustrating hour trying to register using my default Browser, Chrome, I realized that the "bot catcher" was hung up on something about Chrome. So, I went to IE and immediately registered! Sigh. I regard giving in to Bill Gates much like paying a large fee for the privilege of purchasing a mutual fund ... it is not something that I want to do.

I've completely switched to Chrome a year ago and never looked back.

I suggest filing a bug report (ratchet - tools - report an issue) about the problem.

I have been using Chrome awhile, I find a couple of odd things.

Can not log on to TurboTax through Vanguard with Chrome.
Stock charts will not load up at Marketwatch.
Discover virtual CC numbers can not find an open browser when using Chrome.

So I just keep IE and Chrome open and use whichever one works best.

Can you change the user agent in Chrome, i.e. make the website think you are using FireFox or IE? I'm not sure what effect that would have, but it's another approach.
