Test of draft cellphone email

Post by dratkinson »

This is interim step until I can upgrade home PC/internet.

Question. Can I use my desktop keyboard and screen, to create a long draft email (here), that I then edit and send on my new cellphone?

Why?
--New cellphone works with newer internet security protocols, but keyboard is a pain to use.
--Old home PC no longer works with newer internet security protocols, but keyboard and screen are much easier to use.

Meaning: I can no longer access Gmail from desktop, but a long email would be a pain to create on cellphone.

Answer. Seems to work.

This is a test of the newly installed forum software extension which provides scroll bars on long quoted posts.

- Desktop users can scroll with the scroll bars.
- Mobile users just scroll within the quote.

Great!

Now if only posters would learn to quote only the snippets they're directly responding to rather than reproduce a lengthy, scrollable nesting of the entire discussion. That would not only be easier to follow, it would also obviate the need for scrolling in the first place. [But yeah, easier said than done.]

Image is broken for me. Wondering if anyone else sees it? Privacy extensions and Ad-blockers are disabled. Clearing cache and a hard-refresh didn't help. The link itself is fine and loads when cut-n-pasted in a new tab. Bizarre.

I'm wondering if your browser is protecting you. Your image is going to an insecure site (http:// vs https://).

Code: Select all

My browser is blocking the https:// version with a security warning.

Something is wrong with the site's certificate. The dates are good, but not who issued the certificate. Do you have another hosting site you could try, such as Google Drive?

I do, but I think I'll put in a ticket with Dreamhost and see what shakes loose there.

It's a Chrome setting, but I can't recall how I disabled that on Chrome when it was causing an issue with an old server.

Insecure content is blocked by default on secure sites under 'privacy and security' -> 'site settings' -> 'insecure content'.

There is no on/off, just white and black lists. So trying to image link from standard HTTP on this site looks like it's going to break for Chrome users.

Might want to add a phpbb mod that automatically rewrites http to https so at least the problem is more evident by throwing a certificate error if the link is attempted to access directly.

It works for me now that I've added a cert to the host. It seems like this could potentially be a recurring problem unless the board allows attachments or rewrites urls to force https.

Thx. I thought the thread was specifically for people to test posting, which was what I did. I also added, "test posting url". Does that not provide context? What do you recommend I do for future test posts which I post to the thread, "Please try out tests posts here"? Warm regards 🤠

I downloaded the image, loaded it into an image viewer (I use Irfanview) and magnified it to 300%. The characters are fuzzy but still legible.

Another approach would be to create the image at a higher resolution, say 1280x720 or even more, before saving it to postimg.cc. (Assuming it's not they who are reducing the resolution down to 640x360.)

Trying to figure out how to "tag" or "call" someone into a thread. Does putting the @ before their username do it? Testing myself...

Well, that didn't seem to notify me in any way. If anyone knows, I would appreciate it. Sorry for the dumb question but I can't find the answer.

Sorry, we don't have that feature in the software.

@goonie
You could click on their "Contact" link and send them a PM and invite them to join a topic.

I notice your "Contact" link is not visible, so assume that means you've decided you don't what to be contacted. That's okay... but you must allow others the same courtesy you assume for yourself.
