How to get avatar for profile?

Post by learning30 »

How is everyone getting an avatar for their profile? Anything I try and upload is too large or doesn't fit the specific file format. How do I do this?

I searched the site for avatar and found this resource.

I have distant memories of downloading apps, cropping, reducing quality, trying, failing, trying, failing, and trying again. It was quite the process. Will update this if I find exactly what app I used to do this. Maybe one day they will make this easier.

This was helpful, thanks.

It's unfortunate the images become so blurry when shrunk.

From the forum WIKI: "Avatar Instructions"
Creating an avatar
Avatars are limited to 100 pixels square and may not contain animation. Be aware that it may take some trial and error to find or create an image that small and looks good.

Tip: Try to find an avatar that's already 100 px X 100px, as reducing from a larger size may result in a blurry image.

Find or create an image you want to use as an avatar.
Select one of many available free avatar resizing websites, such as those found in a Google Search. Picasion is one recommendation.[3]
In the Bogleheads forum: User control panel, Profile, Edit avatar, Upload from your machine.
I used Photoshop to resize the image. Be sure to use "pixels".
You might have a photo or image editing program that can do this as well.

Also be aware that the avatar's filesize must be less than 8 KiB (8192 bytes).

That's not a typo. KiB is an abbreviation for kibibyte. A what? See: Kilobyte - Wikipedia
Wiki To some, the glass is half full. To others, the glass is half empty. To an engineer, it's twice the size it needs to be.

I just went to Microsoft Copilot in Bing and asked it to make an Avatar. Saved it to my computer. I have Microsoft Power Toys installed. I was able to right click on the file and choose resize image (a module in power tools). An there it is, I have an Avatar.
