SITE OFFLINE (Dec 28) Friday, 2:00 PM Eastern (19:00 UTC) - software upgrade

Post by LadyGeek »

Upgrade postponed until Friday, Dec 28, at 2 PM Eastern (19:00 UTC) --admin LadyGeek

The site will be offline Thursday at 2 PM Eastern (19:00 UTC) to update the forum software. This is a routine maintenance upgrade.

I expect the update to take less than 1 hour.

(This thread is posted in the Forum Issues and Administration forum, but appears in all forums.)

For those composing long posts, it's good practice to save your work in a separate text editor (notepad.exe on Windows).

Not just for the site going offline, but to avoid losing your work if you accidentally close your browser.

An additional tip: Your browser saves what you type. If you hit "Submit" and lose your work, use your browser's "back" button. The content should be there. Then, save your post in a text editor for later use.

Using this opportunity to thank all of those "in charge" of making things on this website "run".

It is such a treasure!

And compared to a few other Forums, it is SO much more pleasant and helpful at the same time!

Wishing everyone here a Happy New Year!

Anyone else having difficulty in posting in advance of the outage? I have gotten several site unavailable messages in the last 40 minutes and lost a couple of posts.

I just spoke with mingstar (site owner), who was on this right away.

The server is fine. There was a problem getting to the server.

Technically, the DNS lookup was failing out on the internet somewhere. It was working for some, but not others. It's outside anything we can do.

We're still on for a 2 PM upgrade.

That would be the opposite of not during the upgrade.

Just making sure you were aware it was EST as LadyGeek did not specify in her last post.
