Is there a way to search for all threads in which someone in “threads B, C, D, etc.” has posted a link to “thread A” at some point? So instead of searching for magic keywords, I could try to find links to “thread A” by searching for its unique identifier number or the like? Does this make sense?
For example, I’m sure we’ve all read part of, or at least seen, Mr. Larimore’s thread on the three fund portfolio. Is there a way to search for every thread that’s posted a link to it?
Sorry if I’m not being clear, the coffee is slowly activating this morning . . .
Searching for threads that link to a certain thread
Re: Searching for threads that link to a certain thread
Google the following:
site:bogleheads.org "88005"
Find the identifying number of the thread in the hyperlink. For the example you listed, it is 88005. Put that in quotes while restricting results to the bogleheads site.

Frugality, indexing, time.

Alright, how do you find that unique identifier?
Re: Searching for threads that link to a certain thread
You have to find the thread you want to search for first.

Thanks. I was right about that coffee!

You can also find the links using the built-in forum search, which is the "gear" icon to the right of the forum's google search box. See: Bogleheads.org - Search
Enter the topic ID (the meaning of the "t" in the URL) in the "Search for keywords:" box, e.g. 88005.
Tip: To get the entire post content in the results, select "All available" in the "Return first:" drop-down.
Here's the results, which is more than what you'd get with a google search: 88005
