SEARCH glitch wrt -re: and -Re:

Trying to find only the OP by specifying
"search term words" -re:
and it fails.

Thought I needed to capitalize: -Re:
but that still returns a lot of hits starting with -Re:

If you want to search for a term in the original post only, go to Advanced Search, search.php, and select "First post of topics only". If you want to search just for the replies by a specific user, you can use the search by author option in Advanced Search or you can go to their profile page (click on their username) and select "Search user's posts". On both options, you can use the "Search these results" box at the top of the page to narrow things down even further.
