How to "follow" a thread of BH

Post by Small Law Survivor » Wed Jun 14, 2017 6:30 am

I believe someone mentioned how to do this, but I can't seem to figure it out. There are certain threads that, as they fade into the past and off the board, I'd like to be notified if and when additions are made. Could someone remind me how to do this?

Open the thread you want to follow. Click on the little wrench by post reply button. It should give the opyion to subscribe.

Or you could post a short reply to the thread (no big deal if you don't have much to say!), and then click on "Quick Links, Your Posts" will bring up all the threads that you contributed to.

Once you "subscribe," what happens then?

You will receive an email indicating there was a new post to that conversation.

This thread is now in the Forum Issues and Administration forum (following a discussion).

You don't need emails either. There is a "notifications" icon at upper right with new posts.

How do you follow your posts on BH?

Post by Small Law Survivor » Tue Oct 31, 2017 9:26 am

[Thread merged into here, see below. --admin LadyGeek]

I'm posting on Bogleheads a bit more now, and I'm wondering how to keep track of topics where I've posted and there may be replies. What if I posted a month ago and that topic is no longer on the home page - how do you get notification that there's a new post on that topic?

Thanks, Small Law Survivor

I use the "View your posts" link visible on the left-hand side of the home page when logged in.

There is also a Notifications button at the top that shows alerts for being quoted or receiving a private message, etc.

David Scubadiver explained how you subscribe to a thread.

Next you'll have to confirm how you set up your personal account re receiving notifications. In the upper right (under the Google box) at your "name" arrow down. Go to User Control Panel. Go to Board Preferences. Go to Edit notification options. Check boxes for when you want emails and/or when you want online notifications.

If Subscribe is "On" but Notifucations are "Off" you won't receive notifications.

This is the easiest way to do it. Thank you Misenplace!

For any topics you want to be notified of updates on you can click the "Wrench" and select "Subscribe Topic".
Any additional posts to the topic will give you a notification.

Yes, and I went to the "Edit Notifications Options" page. Checked all of the boxes under "Notifications". Under "email," checked "Someone replies to a topic to which you are subscribed."

However, I have "subscribed" to topics, but I have never received an email informing me that someone has replied to a topic to which I am subscribed.

And, I'm not sure that is a bad thing - if I subscribed to a topic (I realize you can subscribe w/out having posted), would I receive an email every time someone posted? If so, my mail box could be deluged with emails. That would be a bad thing.

I guess that the most efficient way to follow topics on which I've posted is to use the Quick Links/Your Posts option.

I'll try not to ask this question again.
