Android / iPhone app

Post by sadinvestor »

I was looking for some app for boglehead and was unable to find one.

Are you guys planning one.

Should be simple if site admin install an android/iphone theme and we can detect browser and build a wrapper around it.

I suppose it was built on top of phpbb.

Safari seems to work well enough. What would you hope the app to do beyond that?

Navigation is lot easier. Lot easier to read. Lost easier to post reply.

This may have been discussed a while back. I know there was a thread on tapatalk and if I recall correctly, their is no movement to develop any special app or support tapatalk. I suspect that the admins and mods, who are all volunteers, have their hands full with the work they already do to support this site.
I always wanted to be a procrastinator.

This thread is now in the Forum Issues and Administration forum (forum UI).

Sidney - Thanks. We don't have any plans to develop an app.

If you want "one-touch" convenience to launch the forum, did you know that you can add a bookmark to your homescreen? See: mobile bookmark homescreen - Google Search It works fine on Android / Chrome.

This is not the same as an app, but it's a step in the right direction.

If you plan to browse the forum on your phone regularly, see how the Bogleheads website looks on your smartphone when you try out the phones at the store.

I figured (correctly) that I would be spending a lot more phone time on the Bogleheads than on any other site; I'll often browse on a bus/train trip and bookmark a few threads to follow up on when I get home. I compared an iPhone and a Droid, and on the iPhone I tried, the page didn't zoom properly, so I bought a Droid.

See this thread requesting tapatalk support for this forum.

This forum works great on my iPad via Safari. On the iPhone, not so much -- the font is small and you have to scroll a lot.

I'm basically asking for this link:

to appear in the footer line:

Sorry, the theme will not be modified for this purpose. Active topics (your link) appears under "Quick links" in the top-left menu.

The style is "responsive", which will accommodate mobile devices - but is not a true mobile UI.
