Bear 2020 Like Bear 1987?

Post by galeno » Thu Mar 26, 2020 2:50 pm

In Jan 2017 we reduced our stock allocation from 60% to 40%. Then I watched the stock market take off.

Now that all the gains have been wiped out we'd like to be at 50% stocks.

We always rebalance in early January. I'm hoping 2020 world stocks could be down by at least 20% at year's end.

Unfortunately it's looking more like 1987.

If you had patience after the 1987 drop according to Forbes it took 701 days to go back to its pre drop peak. I appreciate Bogle preaching to stay the course and invest for the long term.

If then next 13 years are similar to 1987 - 2000 then just go ahead and sign me up right now.

I'd take 1987 - 2020 again, retire and call it a day.

Agreed. If we have 1987 to 2000 again I'll be in the yacht club.

I too would love to see that 1987-2000 equity market. I'm just hoping this bear will last until at least the end of the year. We want to go from 40/60 (now 36/64) to 50/50 in Jan. I'd like to buy these extra equities at a nice discount.
