(Australia) Coronovirus Centrelink claim

Post by typical.investor » Wed Mar 25, 2020 6:42 am

Does anyone know how vacation is handled when registering intention to claim a payment via Centrelink?

Business shutdown Tues., so friend is out of work and eligible.

It says payment will be backdated until today if eligible, but friend will take paid holiday until next week.

The business owner didn't know. Do you just disclose that at some point? Just trying to avoid trouble.

I'd check out reddit and if you can't find it there already, make a thread to ask. They can be a pack of animals at times, but they do tend to have up-to-date info there.

It seems you need to be a Reddit member for a week before posting ... mine got removed.

Anyway, this site on Coronavirus and Australian workplace laws suggests paid leave is an alternative to being stood down.

The example given is:
Gemma and her colleagues are advised that permanent employees can take any accrued annual leave they have as an alternative to being stood down without pay
https://coronavirus.fairwork.gov.au

That is different than what the employer suggested ... which is that paid leave should be used up, but they said they really didn't know.
