Fidelity 2% cash back-stopped auto rewards credit??

Post by Houston101 » Sat Dec 25, 2010 11:27 pm

I haven't received my automatic cash back from FIA card services for fidelity 2% rewards card automatically into my fidelity account for the past two months. When I logged into the FIA websites it shows an option for check redemption.

Does that mean they have stopped the auto credit of rewards to the fidelity account?

I have the Fido AMEX and VISA. I got a deposit into my 529 on 12/3/10.

One time I noticed that I hadn't received an automatic cash back payment from FIA card services for a few months. When I called to inquire, I was told that a payment is only made if over $50 has accrued. Could it be that you haven't accrued that amount yet?

I just checked and it showed automatic payments into my Fidelity account on 12/01/10 and previously on 10/01/10. It does seem that the system is still in place, but you could give them a call to verify.

Call them. I received mine automatically early this month, about a week after my statement closed.

I received my first automatic payment into my Fidelity acct on 12/1/10. Before that I had manually redeemed. The system is obviously still working and for me it is now working the way it is suppose to.

Maybe I redeemed last time before they would have automatically sent it. Weird. But I thought they had a bunch of options other than the cashback...

I received $16 this month. Do you have any document points to that $50?

Automatic Redemption Set up

Customers may set up their account for automatic redemption by designating an eligible account at the time of application, or after the Card account is opened by selecting the Fidelity Rewards banner at www.fiacardservices.com. This content will appear in a pop-up window.. At the end of each month, if you have reached the 5,000 point minimum, FIA Card Services, N.A. will automatically convert your points to the equivalent dollar amount and deposit that amount through the ACH network into your designated Fidelity account(s).

On Demand Redemptions
If you do not want your points automatically deposited into your Fidelity account, you can choose to accrue points continuously and redeem them at any time you choose once you have reached the 5,000 point minimum. To do this, follow the instructions below.

Go to www.fiacardservices.com
Log in, or create a log in if it is your first time
Select the Fidelity Rewards link or banner
Enter your Fidelity account number and select the amount of points you would like to redeem
Funds are deposited via electronic funds transfer within 15 days. For Fidelity–managed, Advisor-Sold 529 plans, funds will be received at the end of each month [/i]

I just got my FIA/Fidelity Rewards card 2 months ago. And like many of you, I just had a check sent to me. It's not clear...is there a reward/penalty for taking the check versus the DIRECT TO FIDO option.

Also, do I get 1 point for every dollar spend or is it 2 points or 1.5?????

Yeah, I could figure this out on my own but I suspect it you guys already have it pegged. Thanks!

From the site:

POINT VALUE
CASH REWARD
2,500
12.50 Check
5,000
25.00 Check
7,500
37.50 Check
10,000
80.00 Check
15,000
120.00 Check
20,000
160.00 Check
25,000
250.00 Check
35,000
350.00 Check
50,000
500.00 Check

Above is if you redeem as a cash check to yourself. If you redeem the rewards into your Fido IRA, the reward is 5000 points for a $50 contribution. So getting the rewards deposited to your Fido account is better unless you plan to store up a lot of points.

And you get 2 points per dollar.

Yes, you don't get the full credit if you don't deposit it to a Fidelity account. On the AMEX, you get $50 credit for 5k points if redemeed to a Fidelity account, but only $25 if you request a check.

For the Fido Visa card, you get $75 to a Fido accouint vs. $25 for a check request.

There are two Fido cards (Amex & Visa). The Amex is set at 2 points per every dollar spent. The Visa is set at 1.5 points for every dollar, up to $15K charged per year. After $15K, you earn the full 2% credit.

If you don't have a Fido account, you are really not getting the cashback benefit of each card.

You don't have to deposit it to a Fido IRA/529, either. You can have it deposited directly to a taxable MM account (such as My SmartCash) or an IMA account, using FDRXX as the receiving account, as I do. BTW, I don't know if the IMA is offered to new folks. I have had it for many years, but I don't see it advertised currently.
